The EX and Lx (dx too?) have a different rear engine mount. Anyone know the reasoning? the ex mount looks like itd dampen better, but was it really necessary to make a completely different mount?

ones for luxury(automatic) ones standard. its a vacuum actuated viscous damper. Basically if you were chugging up a long steep grade, itd loosen up so not to transmit vibration to the cabin, then when you get on it itll stiffen back up. I do away with it entirely.
dea motor mounts makes them all..

If I read my service manual correctly, it only loosens up below 1000 rpm to limit vibration transmitted to the car at idle.90 LX 4dr 5 spd 396,014 (sold 1/1/2022) - MRT: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=201450

The EX 5spds use a different rear bracket that calls for the taller mount. To be honest, its a pain in the ass. I went as far as ditching the EX bracket and mount on mine and replaced it with an LX/DX bracket since the mount was such a bitch to get out.
Car drives the same and idles a lot smoother with less vibrations
