    91 lx trans issue

Having a strange transmission issue. My cousin was driving my 91 lx wagon. She went to turn around. She backed up and now it has no forward gears. Reverse works, neutral is also reverse. Car does not move in forward gears but it doesn't act like it's in neutral. It won't rev freely, acts like it's in gear with my foot on the brake (sounds like it's under a load). Any ideas. I have a parts car. Just don't want to pull a trans if it's something simple I'm missing

Check fluid levels first. I think it's a sticking solenoid. Fairly common in rejected fluid changes in autos. My 01 Subaru did that too, I changed the filter and fluids and it hasn't done it since. But my guess would be the solenoid.

Fluid levels will definitely be the first thing. I just winched it on the trailer for tomorrow, didn't even open the hood. Is it the solenoids on the front of the trans you are thinking of or something internal?

Valve bodies* not solenoids... Sorry. And yeah I'm pretty sure they're external.

Edit: it's external. Clean with carb cleaner before replacement. It's held in with a few 10mm's.

They are solenoids. There is also a cable from the shifter to the bottom of the transmission. There are three screws that hold a cover on over the shift cable connection. Remove the cover and make sure the shift lever is moving the lever on the transmission.
