    Winding Up sound when accelerating

    Hi Guys,

I have an odd issue I'm experiencing with my '93 accord ex F22A6.

Sometimes when I'm accelerating up to highway speeds (or stepping on the gas pedal a little harder), I hear some winding up noise, sounds like something's spinning, a tiny whirring sound.

It'll come on and off when accelerating. It's a weird issue. I hear it coming from around the right side (my driver-side is on the left).

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

I wanna add that I just recently had a misfiring issue. During the misfiring, every time when I tried to accelerate up to freeway speeds (or stepping on the gas pedal a little harder), the whirring sound would happen, and I feel like the car wasn't going anywhere. It wasn't responding to the accelerator pedal, it felt like it was losing power.

This will happen for maybe a second or two, then it will resume running normally.

Just for completeness, automatic or manual transmission?

I'm think I'm kinda having the same thing! It's like a high pitching whining right?
        I'm faster then a prius

My first thoughts are either failing accessories (alternator, AC compressor, PS pump) that are making noise when spun up... or your transmission fluid is low, and you're hearing gear whine.
Either one can be bad. Either one can leave you stranded if not addressed.

Check for leaks around the transmission. If it's filthy, clean it well, drive it for a bit, and check for fresh signs of a leak.
Automatic transmissions have dipsticks, but manuals don't.

Yeah, it's a high pitch whine, but also quiet. It sounds like it's muffled.

Also, the car is an automatic.

I just had the spark plugs and cap and rotor replaced, so now it's still making the sound, except less frequently during acceleration. If I can maybe I'll try and record the noise for you guys.

              Check your transmission fluid level.

Is the radio on when this sound happens?

No, radio doesn't affect this noise.

I will check transmission fluid level when I get the chance. Will report back.

On mine, it almost sounds like it's a radio noise, but I don't have one!
