All I can say in regards to the axle nut is dont have sex the night before and make sure you eat a good breakfast before you go at that nut. Its gonna wear your arse out and make sure you have a spare breaker bar handy. Its a super pain in the ass and the most time consuming thing in doing brake work or tranny swaps.

Use a long ass pipe on the end of the breaker bar, then jump up and down on it

I did things the hard way. I bought the boot kit with grease, clips, and axle nuts from the dealer. I took both axles completely apart inner and outer. I got all the old grease out using paint thinner, till there was no dirt or anything left. Put the new grease in and everything back together. Well, 140,000 miles and 7.5 years later I have the same axles rollin with no problems and no noises. The boots I replaced way back then havn't cracked on me yet.

Anyhow, it was more work, but I enjoyed it. Do what you want with your car.
And if you continue to inspect your boots and replace them as soon as you see rips or dry rot your original OEM axles will outlast your car. I know a Honda-trained tech that does this; he has a CB7 w/300,xxx miles --- original axles.

Replacing the axle is popular because it's easier, or at least quicker, but once you do that you'll forever be on that merry-go-round because none of the aftermarket axles are as good as OEM or the remanufactured ones from Honda.

I know this is an old thread, but I have one question.

Do you HAVE to remove the WHOLE axle JUST to replace the cv joint boot?

Any advice on removing the axle? Ive got the hub off and out of the way. Now just looking at a torn boot that I have to replace. And I dont want to replace the WHOLE axle...so dont post just to tell me to replace the whole axle. I want to keep the OEM axle and replace the boot only.

Any help would be appreciated...as the car is up on stands and I have no transportation until this is done.

          Thanks.

well ur gonna have to remove the axle other wise its gonna be a pain in the ass it will be very cramped and u might need to repack the joint with grease. one thing to check tho is that u did not pull the joint apart when u pulled the hub off.

Nah...the hub slid right off...everything is still intact in the cvjoint. Any links/pictures for removing the axle? I really didnt want to have to remove it...but it looks like i dont have a choice.

I downloaded the service manual and have my haynes manual..but i cant find in the service manual anything about how to remove the axle. I have the one downloaded from honda hookup that is a PITA with about 200 pdf files.

Thank you for your reply. I really have to get this done so I hope its not hard to remove the axle.

Driver side. Ive been under there for about 20 minutes but i cant seem to get the dang axle out. Im trying to pry the driveaxle from the intermediate shaft...but the thing wont budge. Im really afraid of breaking something as im prying.

I finally got it. Was hell getting it out. And even harder getting it through the damper fork.

Thanks for the help man. I appreciate it.

I now have to take the boots off and replace them. What should I use to clean all the old grease out so I can put fresh grease in there?

I use paint thinner. Maybe there is something better, but that's what I use. You need to make sure that you get every bit of old grease and dirt out of the joints.

There is 2 different types of grease for the inner and outer joint. I doubt they have the right grease at any auto parts store, or the right amount.
