    Leaking Door...Trouble Spots

    Hi all,

So as some of you may know, I have a rather annoying water leak in my car that comes from the driver's side door, which floods the driver's foot well, and in some cases even reaches the back seat.

I've established that the leak is definitely coming from the door, as when I put plastic over the door and let it sit in the rain, it doesn't leak.

Now, here's the hard part...what exactly is causing the leak. I'm just looking for trouble spots to check.

I'm in the process of replacing the window regulator, and I've added new door glass. My current regulator is loose so when the window goes all the way up, it doesn't seal properly along the winow molding. I manually push it back enough to get it to seal, and that cuts the leak in over half.

My chrome door molding strip is loose, as it was replaced by me shortly after I got my car back from the shop. I had the broken door latch, and the guy who fixed the door butchered my original strip. I popped one out of a j-yard car, but it never has truly sat in the door correctly, could this be letting excess water into the door?

I have also removed all the interior trim and door sill plates, and I don't feel any dripping from the dash.

After the rain stops, the bottom of my door will be slightly damp, while my other doors will not be. My drain holes appear to be unclogged, and the weather stripping is pliable.

Could the chrome strip be the main trouble spot, or is there other areas I can check. I just feel like rather than draining out correctly, the water is draining into my car.

The vapor barrier sheet is long since gone in my car...would it be worth it to purchase another one? I'm basically just sick of the car leaking in the interior as obviously you can smell that something's not right and it fogs badly inside from time to tim enow.

I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem.

under the weather stripping by the mirror, our cars are notorious for rust holes forming there..

or it could be coming from the bottom left corner of the windshield, where the inspection sticker goes..

Waitaminute...I've had those mirrors on and off so many times...

            Bahhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Dom, are you talking about the chrome strip where the mirror bolts in, or the mirror gasket itsself?

I know it's not the windshield. I've had it replaced 3x already.

The vapor barrier while relevant, wouldn't be the point of failure in large amounts of water leaking in. It helps to prevent moisture/vapor) from coming in, but cannot suppress large amounts of water.

I just removed all of my door panels and taped up where the barrier had cracked/broken from wear/bodyshop abuse, and replaced the busted door lining clips.

Are all of the door/side mouldings back on tight? They clip into the door behind the door lining. Is the outer door handle seal intact?
