    Weird Problem

    1992 CB7 DX
    5 Speed

OK, my car has had a pull to the right, not a major pull, but more than normal, from the time I bought it it has been there. As some of you might remember I broke down on the way to Texas last year when my transmission blew, and both cv's went out, so I have a rebuilt tranny and new cv's.

well day before yesterday my car all of the sudden started making not a clicking noise but a clanking noise when turning right or left very sharply at slow speeds, you could feel it shake the car, It would quiet down, and then make a very loud metal on metal clank sound.

I jacked it up, and started the car and put it in firs gear, and lordy be, both wheels have equal power, which threw me off, because I have an open diff. in the car. I called my friend and asked him to come over, and we took off the wheels, and checked the brakes, because we just put new pads on them a few days prior. everything looked fine, we checked the cv's because that was my first suspicion as to what might be wrong, and there is no play in either.

I assumed it was the transmission, and since funds are low right now after my cross country move I decided to just baby it. well today i was bored and i decided to remove the power steering belt because the pump has been acting up lately, just to see what would happen, and wouldn't you know it, no more noise, a little vibration on turning, but no noise at all.

this one is stumping me guys.

what do you think could be wrong?

Check your tie rods and your steering rack.

Was the P/S reservior full? The P/S pump can make some strange noises when they are out of fluid.
Does it make the noise on full lock when the engine is running, and the car is stopped?

My car does the same. Especially when I brake. I haven't fixed mine yet but I have studied the problem and it could be severals things. It obvious isn't the brakes since you said they were checked. I highly doubt it's the transmission. It would most probably be one or more of your tie rods or maybe your wheels simply aren't balanced/aligned. Check the bushings, if it's your tie rod(s) the bushings are usually used or worn out. It's no big deal I'm sure. I'm just waiting for all the snow to melt and heat to come back so that I can start working on my Accord and check this problem out as well.

            Good luck.

I have it narrowed down to one of the steering components, My friend and I feel it is the steering gearbox, but we shall see.

              Thx for the help guys.

I had same problem, checked everything. went to shop that did my cv axles(3years ago lifetime warranty). Could not beleive my eyes, when they pulled them out, the bearings came out in multiple peices, driver side and passenger side. The strange part was car drove fine, just started making that loud clicking noise that day. Tech in shop said he had seen it before, car had run over a month like that. So you might want to check your axles
