i just used one coat. i didn't do my usual through prep and paint job because i didn't care about this taillight. basically, it was just a test piece. later.

Dang, that tail light's getting treated well. This DIY is making me reconsider swapping out my 9091 trunk lid for the 9293 lid. You made the 9091 taillights look pretty darn good.

i really like how this looks. i've always wanted smoked/red tails but without spraying or tinting the lenses, only because it would fade or come off and i didn't want to deal with that. you have given me an idea though. i think i shall do this but with clear/red's.

Hmm now I wonder how it would look if you bought some red/clear tails, disassembled them, and took out the reflector in the clear part, and painted the housing part amber rather than with the fake chrome.

it'd probably look like piss yellow from the outside.

what about the clarity of the light? can you see the light during the day? could i but a L.E.D. bulb in it and make it more visible?

if you take out the reflectors, it is very clear, but i wouldn't do it because of safety reasons. like someone crashing into your car while it's parked on the side of the road at night. later.
