Just pay the fine. It will only cost you more if you don't.

I think states vary as to wether they share information.

Texas must not share, because when getting a ticket from a 35mph speedtrap on the interstate,we had to go straight to court with a police escort. Pay on the spot.

OP, contact the county clerk that the ticket was issued by, tell them the circumstances, and fax over an insurence card that covers the date you got the ticket. They will call your insurance company to verify it was valid during that time, and they should dismiss the case.

If you lived in MD, this would be the best thread ever.

Should have been on top of your shit and just faxed the damn proof of insurance over.

I mean it sucks you got a ticket for something stupid, but you should have been carrying your insurance in your car, especially on a road trip.

This is the poorest excuse to not carry your insurance card. If you are operating a vehicle, any vehicle, you are required by law to have proof of insurance; No matter what state you are in.

As far as I'm concerned, you got a ticket, you had an easy way out and neglected to take advantage of it, now you have problems/fines and you 100% deserve it.

Yeah it happens. Sometimes. But it does vary from state to state. Most states pull your DL period because they notice it has been pulled in a diffrent state. Some states might not get this information or might not care. But thats not normally the case.

My right to drive in MN and WI is suspended, but I have never ran into a problem in TX. Again my tickets are years old and I am still valid.

MN and WI will most likely get some $$ from me, but it will be on my terms.
The way TX does things is more than likely the most different out of all states.

In some states you can break the law simply by being in their state with a warrant from another state. IL is like this.

The fact is if you have a warrant in one state you can still go to jail for it in another. The last time I was in jail I was in holding with a man in his 40s. He was there for an 11 year old bench warrant from AZ for DUI. He said he had been pulled over and they let him go time after time but that time AZ said they wanted him so they extradited his ass.

I don't know what the laws are for your area but this happened to a friend of mine a few years back. He lives in PA and got a ticket driving back home to PA from visiting me here in TN. He got the ticket in VA and told the officer he would pay the fine by mail. The officer then informed him he would have to appear in court he could not pay through the mail. This was not possible since the court date was during his finals for college. So they suspended his license in VA. He still drives in PA and has been pulled over a few times since. Basicly he just can't drive in VA until fines are taken care of according to his lawyer since each state has their own motorized vehicle laws.

Here is an answer given by a state trooper to another persons question.

All states have reciprocity, which means they recognize the license from other states. They can not take your license away, but they can take away your privilege to operate in their state.

I work on the border of Wisconsin and Michigan, and we deal with this occasionally. If a Michigan driver gets a ticket in Wisconsin and doesn't pay, Wisconsin can suspend their operating privilege, but in Wisconsin only. The person can continue to drive in Michigan, or any of the other states.

For serious offenses such as OWI, some states report the conviction to your home state, who may or may not suspend you.

I see someone is recommending you ignore the out of state ticket. That will not work. For non-criminal traffic matters, if you do not appear in court, you are found guilty by default. The conviction is entered, and you will very likely end up with a warrant.

I say you ignore it, go about your business and PRAY to God you don't get pulled over. If you do and you end up getting arrested and your car gets impounded, you have no one to thank but yourself. Plus, you'll have to pay more than what you originally had to pay, or continue driving with a suspended license.

                The choice is yours!
