    Do'n work

These came in on Saturday. They will compliment my new headlamps well. eBay score I got em at a real decent price.

It took a while finding a match. Krylon 9024 is non-existent. I have searched and it seems like it has been discontinued. What do you guys think?

I find that a most of the character comes from placing it in the details.

Still ended up using stained glass paint. I wasn't able to find it in any type of rattle can. I first tried mixing orange rustoleum paint with clear rustoleum paint. The results were more translucent not transparent. It did come out transparent orange, but it didn't come out clear. I also didn't like the resulting hue. I went to an independent local hobby shop and came across this stuff. I had to shoot it with an airbrush. The brand was called "Pebeo." I'll post more details later when I have a final product.

          Nice.

I'll admit, im not 100% satisfied with mine (but im still very, very pleased).

I just got tired of buying paint! And you're right, Krylon only has three stained glass paint colors to choose from now. Red, Yellow and Blue.

Luckily i got it right with my last attempt, although they could be a little more transparent. I may re-do them or just get LED lights to boost output (probably the latter).

          Keep us updated!

Me next! And I believe you can use clothing dye. Just soak the reflectors in a bowl of amber overnight and it'll be all good.

Just painted now I need to wait 3 days for this stuff to cure properly and they I can assemble.

Cheap chrome from the eBay housing do not play well with enamel. They took the transparent paint really well though. Sorry for the blurry iPhone pics. I will replace them with better ones tomorrow.

Lenses came out nice though. I might have gone a little too dark but I won't know till i get some sunlight behind them tomorrow.

They came out really good. Are you going to do the bumper lenses?

Bumper lenses are done. The are just remaining black housed not getting amber lenses. I need to do another set because the bumper lenses cracked on me when I was taking em apart. I already have a pic of them up on a previous page i thought.

Corner lamp complete. I installed it just before I tore apart the front end to mock up my one piecers.

Time to get back to polishing out the clear lenses on the one piecers. I started out with 800 grit, but i am switching over to 600 to get rid of the clear coat.

Thanks bro. It took lots of time and thought to achieve.

Perfect, not quite yet. Definitely on that course though.

I never thought the look of black housed JDM headlamps with the amber corners could be replicated with USDM lighting options. Even though they will never be exact, I have managed to come close enough. It wasn't easy and I did encounter some trial and error difficulties, but I learned enough to produce a set that I can be very happy with.

The driver side corner didn't make it past the first stage. Thus the reason why there's only a picture of one. A heat gun or an oven are not the proper way of taking these apart. The plastic basically warped where I was holding it as I was trying to pry it apart. This was the first issue I came across. I will need to try a hot Exacto blade next time.

The next thing I noticed is that Euro clear corners are missing the the Clear diffuser inside the corner lamp. Depot clears have the diffuser, however I really don't like the clear reflector that they have. I ended up hitting the JY in search of just those.

Mitsubishiv5 and I came across a pair that would work. We went to 2 yards before a set was found. I took into considerations of the details in the diffuser itself. There was an outer lip that I chose to paint black. I had to wait to find a suitable paint that was going to match my side markers and most importantly remain clear/transparent not translucent. I tried a couple of products and finally ended up using some stained glass paint and an airbrush to apply it. I couldn't find any product in a rattle can. Krylon has discontinued that color from their stained glass paint. I'm actually glad about this last fact because I am very happy with the final results of the color, and I found a new product to achieve this.

I am very proud of the final results and I know the next set will be even better.

On a side note. I made a lot of progress on polishing out my JDM headlights. With a bucket of water and a sanding block, they went through 600, 800, 1000, 1500, & 2000 grit sand paper. I probably have about 7 hours into them at the moment. A few of those hours came from mitsubishiv5. Thanks again for the help bro. Updated pics of those will be up soon enough.
