    Car stolen!

Apologies if this is the wrong section.

I woke up this morning to find my CB7 had turned in to some sort of SUV! I swear... some people are so desperate; I'm pretty sure my car was the shittiest looking in the whole lot.

Other than the vehicle, I had my new low-profile jack in there, and the trunk was full of "car stuff" (fluids/drain pans/funnels, misc parts I never swapped in) and camping gear (nothing too crazy, sleeping bag/pillow and rope).

I've left a message with the police department to file a report (their system asked me to do this, ).

So I guess my next move is to buy another CB7...

What gets me: I distinctly remember doing the locking procedure (automatic locks for passenger, then key for driver as the auto lock doesn't lock the driver), before coming in last night. This morning, there was no glass, and no signs of break-in.

That's terrible. Do you think it could be related to your vin report? Like a key was made with your vin # or something like that?
......father in law has it back again. Time to shine

No idea... that would imply that the person who stole it, or someone they know, visited the forum and downloaded the report. I'll look into it, .

It would also imply that they have a method of making a key from a VIN. I thought only dealerships could do that? Should I call local dealerships to see if they had keys made?

So they stole your car and left you an SUV?

I've heard part of the reason our cars are so commonly stolen is because with these older Hondas you can simply file down another Honda key and it works well enough. No wonder there aren't any 'signs of break-in.' Or maybe they pried the rear quarter window open and reached over to the lock?

Best of luck recovering it in one piece.

Time to invest in a steering wheel lock I think. As long as the cylinders are "Honda" cylinders, the "filed key" trick will still work, becuase it's still a Honda cylinder.

It's also pretty easy to break the ignition lock off the column, unlocking the wheel. Then it's just a matter of turning the switch at the end of the cylinder to start the car. My ex's civic got stolen this way.

Yes, you can have a Honda dealer make you a new key with the VIN, Honda has all the key codes on file. They ask for paperwork to prove you own the car, but if you know a guy that works there, you can bypass that little requirement. Thats assuming you have the original locks.

                    I've been there....

My cb9 was stolen and it's the worst feeling in the entire world. It's one thing to steal a new car , big whoop..... But not my accord , not my buddy , how dare they.... like picking on a defenseless creature. They will perish when I find them!

As a side note , I think the cb7/9 is possibly the easiest car in the world to steal.

I wired an extra key into my ignition so it literally takes two keys to start the car. The second key is also not a car/automotive key.

I know someone who tried to pry the rear quarter window open on his coupe. It really is not a good idea and usually causes the window to break. Might as well just use a hammer.

can you change the ignition cylinder to retrofit something else?

I used to pull the clutch relay fuse and replace it with a blown fuse. It doesn't stop anyone from pop starting the car (and may or may not prevent hotwiring) but even if you had the key, you couldn't start the car.

It was piece of mind, even if it was useless.

The police recovered the vehicle, and I now have it in my posession. I had to pay ~$100 to get it from the impound lot, :/. It looks like someone ransacked the goods in the cabin, but I didn't notice anything is missing. The transmission shift cables/linkage is really FUBAR, I can only shift into 1st, 3rd, and 5th, and I have to fight to find them (the lever sits really far forward); don't even think about trying for 2nd and 4th (and presumably reverse... uh oh! I parked nose-first in the stall!), you'll screw something up and can't find anything.

Someone (police, citizen, no idea) called in about an abandonded vehicle (~2 months abandonded...), and that's how it was found.

Time to fix things up for the winter!
