    DIY Index

Ive just been browsing around the new DIY Index threads that have been made. Thought it was really good. Definitely going to strengthen the DIY section now that its easier to find stuff. Shout out to all that are involved in that.

Wow, I didn't even realize CyborgGT was doing that!

    Fantastic work.

We're going to start focusing more attention on the DIY section soon (picking up where we left off a while back.) This is a definite step in the right direction.

Lol, I've just been going at it while I watch movies, which I do enough of anyway. It was just a bit annoying when I was trying to look for specific DIYs myself, so I did something about it. Exterior will be up probably in a couple days, then the rest will be easy to knock out. I've been a part of this place long enough, it's about time I contributed, so I'm glad to help!

IMO i think we should get rid of all DIYs that have broken photos/videos.

Yeah, I actually left a couple out because of little to no text and the media didn't work anymore. But for the most part I just right-clicked for the URL. I'll finally be buying another CB around May/June (assuming the very specific model I'm after is available...), so I'll do what I can then to write up new DIYs. I'll go through looking for the broken ones and document doing the jobs myself; at least for the maintenance stuff. Maybe more people will be willing to help with that.

I've dabbled in DIYs recently with my RSX, so I got skillz lol.

Fix or replace is the plan. Someone might be able to follow the instructions and provide new pictures or videos, without rewriting the thread. OR they could use the old threads as guides to write new ones.
For that reason, I don't want to just delete them... but the matter will definitely need to be addressed.

The staff has also been discussing a format to be used in the DIY sections, so we can ensure all DIY threads are actually helpful and easy to follow.

Whenever I've nailed something on a CB, I've always checked the DIY to see if its been done. 9-10 times it has, but when it hasnt ill make a DIY.

I always picture things I do so it makes it easier to decide on whether to do one or not.

Ive only made 2 lol, hoping to make more though. A searchable descriptive title is something that I think makes a difference

If you ever feel you can make a better DIY than what's there... feel free. Or if you think you can provide a different method, or a different way of describing it. I've done things to my cars (and my computers) where I referenced multiple DIYs because different explanations and different methods helped me understand what I was doing.

The title is DEFINITELY important. We try to encourage such titles in all threads, but I think we're going to make an even more concentrated effort to do it in the DIY section.

I'm glad that Cyborg took the time to make an index. Granted now looking through the index I've already read all of them. I've only run across a few I haven't read at one point or another.

Deev, I have referenced so many different threads for certain projects. The big one was the OBDII to OBDI conversion harnesses I've made. One thread has one piece of info while another has another piece and by the time I'm done, I've used 3-6 threads to gather all of the info needed. I really should do a write up on those stupid conversion harnesses.

Uuuuuuuuuugh. The index for the multitudes of blacked-out headlights and mesh grilles is up.

We started talking a few months ago about standardizing the format for DIY's to a much more "controlled" form so they are easier to read/follow.

We have also been discussing ways to have the pictures/diagrams controlled by the site so that we don't have to worry about individual account issues that we can't do anything about, which would help with the broken links/missing pictures.

We have also been discussing whether it would be easier to publish a required format, or whether it would be easier to require that they DIY be submitted for editing/formatting/correcting prior to putting it up in the section.

We know that going forward, the greatest value to this site will be the library of knowledge we have, so we have been talking about trying to make it more user friendly, better organized, and setup with better content that is more clear and easier to follow. We obviously would also like higher quality images, etc.

If anyone is interested in lending a hand, let me know. I will probably start the process with some of my own DIY's since I don't feel bad about dismantling them and testing with them.

I just finished my Master's and have a lot of other stuff going on, but it would be something I would like to start doing in my free time.

However, the DIY index is a FANTASTIC start to a usable long term library.

Like the idea and work ya did with the DIY stuff but, I was scrolling through exterior an seen the painting your car stages. In my profisional opinion it's 95% wrong from shop/both work to garage/back yard work it may be me (12 years experience doing anything from side work, claims, and restorations) but I do agree some maybe outdated or scattered especially that one and need some updating.

Not to take away from anybody just my 2cents.

If my personal opinion went into making the indexes, all of the black housed headlights would have been left off on the grounds that the mod kills your output and is therefore a safety issue. But it's really not for me to say; I just organized it all.

The indexes are all now up. Looks like someone had already done one for electronics/audio, though it's not up to date.

Wow guys awesome work! This is something the DIY section has been needing for a long time now. Now we just need to find all the threads outside of the DIY sections that are basically diy's like the ones on swapping out transmission gears, ect and get those indexed. I will try and start a personal list that I can submit to one of you guys for review.
