I know this thread was made quite a while ago, but figured it would be cool to get an update of what stupid stuff has gone on when fixing your car. I've got a few that I'll admit to doing:
1. Was installing axles or some front suspension and took it out for a test drive. I heard this weird grinding sound coming from the front right side.
couldnt figure it out.. figured I broke a control arm or something. I called cisco(hondafan), and after some problem solving I said "well I did only tighten the lugs by hand" That was my problem.
2. After pulling the engine for oil pump/rod bearing inspection, put it back in and went to start it up. It was idling like CRAP... was running but hardly. Turns out when I put the timing belt on, I somehow managed to screw the timing up majorly. (The cams were both pointed up at 12 oclock, but the crank was at about 7 oclock, when it should have been 12 aswell). Thankfully no damage from that stupid mistake.
3. doing the valve adjustment on my motorcycle, dropped the feeler gauge down with the timing chain. was magnetic, but kept falling off and going deeper. Finally got it out with a long wire bent at the end.
4. valve adjustment on my car, used inches instead of MM
Got all the way done and realized... close call.
Thats it for now, but sure cisco will add more that I forgot about since I always call him in distress.
So what will you admit to doing?
