ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    a/c problem

when i turn on the a/c while the engine is NOT running, it's fine. but when i turn on the a/c with the engine on, the engine starts to stutter and it feels like its about to die. the rpm drops and goes back up. What's wrong? Also, theres a click sound everytime its about to drop rpms.

Your AC doesn't work without the engine running. All you're doing is turning on the blower fan. The engine has to be running in order to spin the AC condensor. Your car needs a tune-up and an AC check.

the click sound is the relay latching to turn on the compressor for A/C. rpms drop because system is not compensating for additional load. check air boost valve & do regular tune up.

Also, the a/c relay has a pressure switch. If your a/c doesn't have the right amount of pressure the compressor won't even engage. I would say that your refrigerent pressure is low, and that you need a tune-up so that your idle stays at a more constant rpm. It's normal for your idle to drop when turning on the a/c cause you're adding more load to your engine. However, I believe your ecu should see this and compensate by raising the rpm's.

If you go to have it recharged with the original R12 refrigerant it will be expensive, but more compatible with the cb7 system. I suggest having them put dye in the system so it can be checked for leaks.

Your other option is to retro fit your system to the r34, which is the current refrigerent used cause it's cheaper and easy to convert. Only downside is that you may notice it's not quite as effecient. I had my 91 civic si converted and thought it worked pretty well...till the compressor blew out. That's a whole different story.

Okay so I checked it again. One of the fans aren't spinning when the A/C is on. Do I just replace the fan or is it something else?

Which fan comes on? One fan will be off unless your engine temperature is high enough to turn it on.

Have someone help you by sitting in the car turning the A/C button on and off (turn the fans up as well). the passenger side fan should be tied to that button.

Driver's side is A/C condensor fan. Wired straight to the condensor fan relay mounted to the driver side fender.

Actually, it's the other way around, I *think*.

Also, both fans come on when the A/C is on, no matter how hot or cold the car is.

Condensor fan is on the driver side, it has a smaller shroud. The one on the passenger side is the radiator fan. Both should come on when you press the a/c button. Instead of converting to R134a, try Industrial Enviro-Safe 12, it cools better the r12, contains no cfc's, and is safe for all r12 systems. Freeze-12 is also a good alternative to R12.

Oi. BOTH FANS COME ON WITH THE A/C ON. END OF STORY.

Go out to your car when the engine is cold, turn your fan on with the A/C button engaged, and turn your key to the II position. Pop your hood. BOTH fans will be running.

Both my Accords were like this, as well as my two friends Accords...

Agreed, the engine has to be runing to turn the a/c compressor, therefore the a/c doesnt work without the engine running. Also the A/c has a low pressure switch and if your refrigereant is to low it would not turn on at all. The clicking sound you are hearing is the compressor clutch kicking on which is normal. An evac and recharge is in the future for your car and possibly a retrofit if it has not already been done, from r-12 to r-134a
