ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Double tapping the gas?

So after playing around a little bit (and reading online) I've heard when you floor it and repress the gas pedal it downshifts the car, and ive heard mixed opinions on if it gives you a small boost of speed. Just curious as to the truth of it and if so why? Sorry if its a noob question.

If the throttle is all the way open the car should already have downshifted into the proper gear?

I'm talking about when your floor it let off for a second and floor it gain? Idk that's just what I read so that's why I was asking, I've done it before but the only noticeable difference was the engine straining more?

Ill post the website as soon as i find it again. Might not be until tomorrow because its late over here. Its not a pressing nor important question but i figured if anyone knew the answer it would be here.

In the old arcade game crusin USA you could double tap the gas for a wheelie.... But im joking.. My brother built a transmission for his race truck that performed the same way. I think it has more to do with the way the throttle cable is connected. I cant imagine that this is normal factory option in our cb7. Its probaly happening to you or whoever posted it as a result of malfunction in hardware

I know that in a newer automatic when you floor it, it will down shift for better acceleration. I guess with an older car like ours you might have to help initiate this process with "double tapping" the gas.

I have a 2009, and it has never downshifted upon flooring of the gas. If anything i would imagine flooring a vehicle would result in shifting to the next gear...

When you floor an automatic, it will usually downshift. "double tapping" has nothing to do with it.
Most automatics will shift to the highest gear possible in order to save gas. This is not very good for acceleration. When you need to move, you floor it, and most likely a signal from the TPS tells the TCU to downshift.

What probably happened here is that when you let go, it jumped to the next gear, when you press the pedal again, the transmission downshifts. However, as previously stated, when you floor the gas pedal, it should have already downshifted to the lowest gear possible at the speed you are going.

My brother told me about this, and I use it often when I get on the highway, I stomp the gas down for moment, release, then floor it and it downshifts, doesn't do it all the time, maybe I'm not doing it "correctly" all the time?

You will probably find that if you "floor" it and hold it there, it will likely downshift as quickly as backing off and flooring it again.

Older automatics, like ours, have a TV or downshift cable that connects to throttle and the transmission. When it sees the throttle open a certain amount, it forces a downshift regards of whatever the transmission is doing at that time. It may take longer in overdrive because it has to unlock the torque convertor first before downshifting.

What about older American Transmissions? I always thought the TV or "passing gear" cable was to upshift the tranny when the throttle is mashed
