ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    CB7 maintenance help

hello, i just got my first car, im 16, and it seems to be ok for now other than all of the windows not working but i was wondering what are the things that are likley to break on an cb7, or things that i should replace etc thanks for the help

If you are unsure of the maintenance history, I would first start by replacing all your fluids, then general tune up items like spark plugs, wires. When ever you start replacing things/fix things its always good to replace as many parts (like gaskets/seals) as possible along the way, along with any feasible upgrades. Main things to check out/replace beyond the fluids and basic tune up items would be ANYTHING made of rubber, this includes all gaskets/seals on the engine, suspension items etc.

In regards to this site, read the stickies first at the top of each section, as they contain most of the sites most desired and useful information.

Welcome to the cb chassis family.

May want to replace the timing belt and water pump if you have no records on the car.

First off, WELCOME to our Family! Here, you'll find that all things related to our beloved CB7 are easily found with the simplest navigation on your spare time, or even answered if you are unable to find the answer you're looking for...

Second, are your windows power windows? When you say your windows are not working, do you mean power-wise or they're working but just takes a long time for them to move up (like mine )?

By the way, is your car manual or auto? What trim is it? DX, EX, LX, or SE?

Just do as cloudasc said and do your very basics. In fact, just this past weekend, I did a coilover install and found I had a bevy of OEM parts that needed replacing. (Our CB7s are notorious for that especially.) So when replacing, you have a choice: replace with original stuff, OR, for a few bucks more, replace with higher quality stuff. For example, when it comes to suspension, you can choose polyurethane bushings OR original rubber bushings. One will cost more than the other, but you'll FEEL the difference for that extra moolah you spent.

One thing I would check is spark plug tubes and shine a light in there. Check for oil in there. I use to smell burnt oil on occasion and I thought it could be the piston rings are failing. It turned out to be bad spark plug tube o-rings. Simple fix, just be cautious if you do need to replace them.

Valve cover O-rings leaking is super common - before replacing just make sure that the valve cover bolts are torqued right, they have a habit of vibrating loose (so much so that I've heard of people using locktite...).

If you see oil in the tubes, blow it out, clean the tubes, the spark plug resistors and spark plug wire boots, snug down the valve cover bolts, go driving. Check them after awhile, if there's no oil, problem solved for free. If oil's accumulated, replace the seals.

I'll put another thread up to address another sometimes overlooked aspect of the oil-in-spark-plug-well-issue, namely that there are two sets of seals:
