After driving my car for 10 minutes, I was sitting at a stop light, at idle, and the oil pressure light started flickering. I quickly pulled into a gas station, checked the oil level (it was just under the lower dot), added a quart of 5w-40, and it went away. Later that night it flickered again after 30 minutes of driving. It only flickered once, though. Any ideas of what it could be? Thanks!

ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!
Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956
Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)
Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.
These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.
1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.
2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.
3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.
4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.
The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.
The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Oil Pressure light flickering at low revs

It is either low oil pressure (how many miles on your engine?) or a faulty oil pressure switch/connection. To know for sure, you'll have to measure the oil pressure. The pressure port/switch is on the back of the block above the oil filter.90 LX 4dr 5 spd 396,014 (sold 1/1/2022) - MRT: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=201450

Changing oil at 3k is absolutely unnecessary. That is literally a sales pitch created by Jiffy Lube to sell oil changes. Back in 1990, Honda specified the oil change interval for these cars to be 7500 miles. Today, oils are even better, especially synthetic and synthetic blends.Originally posted by 4cam4banger View Postexactly what fleetwood said.
in addition- when was the oil changed last? oil breaks down as the car is driven. i always say change oil every 3k, its cheap enough to do.
The condition of the oil should have absolutely no effect on the oil pressure.
As Fleetwood said, it's either the pump or the switch/sensor. First, check the sensor. It's located near your oil filter. Check the wiring first. If it's damaged, repair or replace it. Next, replace the sensor. Removing it and cleaning it might help, but it's an inexpensive part. Just buy a new one, preferably from Honda. Check your oil pressure. If the pressure actually IS low, it's likely your pump. Replace it ASAP, and don't drive the car until you do.
I suspect the switch more than the pump, as it seems to be sporadic. I don't imagine a failing oil pump would account for a flickering light. If your pressure is low, the light stays on.
