Does anyone know why the trunk has a vent hole in the trunk. I want to patch it up better because it allows a bunch of road dust everywhere inside the trunk. I have zip tied a piece of thick clothe to be a somewhat of a barrier/filter to prevent this road dust to enter as freely. If i close it off completely, will it mess something up?

ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!
Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956
Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)
Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.
These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.
1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.
2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.
3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.
4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.
The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.
The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Trunk vent. Whats the purpose?

There are multiple reasons for the vent. All of which the dealership deemed necessary for the past 50+ years.
- the vents are to let the cabin air out. Air comes through the cowl in front of the car, out the vents in the dash, through the rear deck into the trunk, then out the vents in the trunk, in theory. They simply allow air to circulate through the car.
- some say they also allow pressure to escape when closing the trunk lid or the doors on the car
- obviously the people you kidnap and put in the trunk need to breath. Can't get the ransom money when they are dead right?
- they also allow moisture build up to escape from the lower part of the trunk
- i also read somewhere that for safety it is required (gas tank leaking fumes, items you put in the trunk which smell (gas jugs, batteries, etc.) and other toxic items if stored in the trunk you want the gas/smell to vent outside and not to the passenger compartment

I think its primarily to allow airflow through the cabin when the windows are closed, virtually all cars have some kind of vent near the back.
It may or may not be an issue with 25 year old door and window seals.1992 EX, 306,000 miles - Track toy - M2S4, H23A1, ST rear swaybar, Wagon brakes, GC coil sleeves, KYB AGX dampers, Stoptech pads, Toyo Proxes R1R, 2.25" exhaust

I also think it allows the air conditioner vents to allow external air into the car, and eliminates that pulsating ear thumping that happens when you only open one window. Also lets the doors close without blowing out window seals when everything is closed.
There is supposed to be a flap inside the plastic vent that keeps it generally closed - perhaps the flap is in bad shape or missing.
All accords had the body vent, but 90-91 accords also had a plastic opening through the side paneling of the trunk, so air has a direct path from the trunk cavity out to the body vent... This opening was removed in the 92-93's, so the body vent opens up to the closed back of the trunk side paneling. I'd imagine this helped keep exterior dust minimized and contained behind the side paneling, instead of blowing directly onto the carpet.
There was a guy on facebook who added a 12-volt fan (from a computer) to that body vent, so on super hot days when the car has been sitting, he could turn on the fan and it would immediately evacuate the car of the hot stale air, instead of trying to wait for the A/C to run.Last edited by cp[mike]; 10-28-2016, 12:40 PM.

Should put the fan on a thermal switch so it runs when the interior exceeds a certain temperature. I have one of those infrared point and shoot temperature gauges - the dash registered 174 degrees and the steering wheel 155 degrees one day during the summer with the car closed up (no windshield shade).90 LX 4dr 5 spd 396,014 (sold 1/1/2022) - MRT: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=201450
