ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

they're basically the same motor but 9 times out of 10, the f22b will have significantly less mileage and be in better shape than the 2.3.

Actually they are not the same motor well kinda. Blockwise they arent and the h23 has more stroke if I remember correctly. F22B will be able to handle boost because of the similarities it shares with the F22A block. bjaccord did really well with his h23 setup pushing around 280 or so whp and coulda been higher. In the end both can make power it depends on tuning mostly.

i agree f22b alot less miles but the h23 is proven already so its ur choice... i personally would choose the f22b. Im actually soon gonna get a f22b dohc swap because its practically new

I have a boosted h23 and i love it. if you are going to be buying a new engine you can get the jdm h23's and they are low milage. its up to you the f22b is usually a little cheaper to buy too. I know the place here in town that sales motors only wants 650 w/o tranny for the f22b.

what makes the h23 so much greater over the f22b? If anything it would be the displacement, strokes the same as the f22s, since the crank/rods are the same, it's the piston/bore that gives the displacement difference. h23 have frm sleeves, so that makes it a hassle to upgrade. h23 has higher compression then the f22b, meaning less room for error, and I maintain the f22b head is better then the h23(no fact there, pure speculation). IMO, the f22b would be better for boost.

Lets pull your head this weekend and compare I'm down for it if you are, I'd like to know as well.

As weve kind of discussed before, they make very similar power from the factory, with the f22b looking to be the weaker motor on paper (Displacment and compression) but no one really knows why.

If I were going to boost another factory motor, I really wouldn't care which motor I boosted, I'd just buy which ever was cheaper and lower mileage.

Don't all F22's have iron sleeves from the factory? If thats the case you could run a forged piston no problem.

To me that would be a much better block for boost over the H23, I don't think a 100 cc's is gonna matter if you're boosting.

Doesn't matter when boost is involved... Rosko, you're right about the sleeves. You can run forged pistons with the F22B. The H23 will need special pistons (not even sure if they're availible). Of course, that's with the stock sleeves. When you reach a certain level of boost, you'll need to resleeve either motor anyway.

Stock for stock, just get the one with lower mileage. They're both plenty strong to handle lower boost levels in stock form... just be sure it's healthy, and tune it properly.

IMO, I'd rather boost the F22A. The head flows well, the block is strong, it's cheap as dirt, and DOHC ain't all that I've seen boosted F22As run mid-11s... and then drive home. Don't discount the stocker!

Mahle makes an FRM compatable forged piston, its the "Mahle Gold Series" specifically. Its a different alloy from your standard forged piston and its also coated. The downside is that the particular alloy is a bit heavier. Mahle is a well known piston manufacturer, but as for these pistons I've heard mixed results and if it were me I wouldn't bother. *shrugs*
