    trunk popper

    Quick question.
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1998-...Q5fAccessories
Could this be modified to work with our trunks?
I have an extra output on my alarm for this, plus it would be super convenient.

edit: that's not it but you guys get the question lol

I don't think it'd work. Looks like a regular lock cylinder. If you want a trunk popper, this would work.

Yeah I saw the plug and was like, maybe this will work.

I just bought a door lock actuator for 3.50...if it doesn't work I'm only out 3 double cheeseburgers worth of money.

Didn't get any pics unfortunately, but I used a door lock actuator on my old CB for trunk release: This type -

Just get the mounting angle right and the rod as straight as possible.

You should really look into getting a trunk pop solenoid rather than using a lock actuator. An actuator could be made to work, but is meant to operate in both directions like a door lock, lock and unlock. A solenoid will give you a single, powerful pulse in only one direction. That's all you need to pop a trunk, and they usually come with a cable instead of a rod so you can get pretty creative with your install and it'll still work.

I've used these many times: http://www.audio-discounters.com/522t.html

The actuator will go one direction since the current through it doesn't change direction, but is the spring in the trunk latch strong enough to pull it back to its starting position?

x2, and the spring is strong enough. I had a door lock actuator in every car's trunk that I have ever owned. The popper posted by wherm has a lot more power than needed.

Worked for me, Btw the spring is more than strong enough.

I have a kit like that that I haven't installed yet, plan to hook it up to my remote start/alarm controller. Mine has a cable and pulls only which is all that's needed for our cable actuated trunk locks.

Not sure if a lot of guys got this but I believe my EX came with an OEM trunk opener hooked up to the OEM alarm (Clifford). The feature doesn't work anymore so I'm curious where most of the problems occur so I can try and troubleshoot this. I'd love to have the feature work again.

What happens when you hook 12v to the popper?
