Does it make a quick knock noise on start up. Thats when the engine is least lubricated with oil so you might usually hear it there if its a bottom end knock.

Of course the knock comes back tonight when I don't have the camera with me....I'll catch it one day.
As stated before, it can only be heard between 2500-4000 rpms accelerating in 2nd-4th ears, loudest in 3rd.
I haven't had the chance to get under and look for anything loose in the suspension/steering yet.My Member's Ride Thread

I haven't had the chance to get the car in the air yet. Plus it's in the 20's - 30's night/day right now.Originally posted by HondaFan81 View PostHave you checked wheel bearings? Front end jacked up, push/pull at 12 & 6 oclock on wheels. My Member's Ride Thread

Finally got a chance to sneak under the car today, I bought ramps so the suspension would be loaded and here's two videos of the axles:
Driver 3 month old NAPA reman
Passenger 2 year old Advance reman
Seems to be excessive play here or am I crazy. Would this cause a knocking noise? If there is any vibration from bad axles (as there normally is) it's VERY minimal. My Member's Ride Thread

If you have an engine knock, you should be able to make it do so in neutral while revving the engine. My 87 Nissan pickup spun a bearing today and it would only knock under load or while revving it up. I have been in a CB where the tranny was making some crazy noises and then all of a sudden the tranny exploded....as in a big chunk of it was missing. I would try the axles first though.

Yeah that's what has confused me, the noise I hear sounds exactly like a bottom-end knock, but the fact that I can't reproduce it at all in neutral and that it's most noticeable in 3rd gear leads me to the drive-train (tranny, axles). I hope it's not the tranny, can't afford a replacement right now.Originally posted by Shag Wagon View PostIf you have an engine knock, you should be able to make it do so in neutral while revving the engine. So question: In my opinion, the axles wobble around too much inside the tranny housing (passenger side) and intermediate shaft (driver's side)......is this because the axle splines are slightly too small or because the housings are worn and allowing movement? My Member's Ride Thread

I confirmed today that the suspension (tierod ends, bearings, ball joints, control arm bushings, sway bushings) are all very firm, no play at all.
At this point I think the knocking is coming from either the tranny itself or the axle(s) or intermediate shaft.....the passenger axle (Advance reman 2 years old) has busted boots so I'll replace that one soon and keep you posted. My Member's Ride Thread

Did you check motor mounts for tears/rips excessive movement etc? Could it be piston slap?Originally posted by 19dabeast85 View PostI confirmed today that the suspension (tierod ends, bearings, ball joints, control arm bushings, sway bushings) are all very firm, no play at all.

Maybe this: http://www.team-integra.net/forum/di...PagePosition=1
I had that issue before. Purchased some remanufactured axles from raxle and it went away.

After watching the video the only thing I can hear that sounds strange is what sounds like an exhaust leak. If the header is leaking from one cylinder it could make a loud clicking on acceleration. Also it sounds like your power steering pump is whining you should prob check the fluid. This is what it sounds like to me but keep in mind I am trying to diagnose something without experiencing it first hand.

At full suspension travel the cv joints are much tighter and very likely would not make any noises, dunno.Originally posted by CB7Man View PostPut the car on jackstands (insanly secure! Maybe with wheels off) and with a buddy, air drive the car, see if you can find the noise. My Member's Ride Thread

I do have an exhaust leak (DC header failure) BUT this absolutely is not an exhaust leak, which I can also hear separately from this knocking, and heard it way before the knocking started. The knocking I hear really didn't come through on the video so there's no way anyone could help me there, lol.Originally posted by phalpin View PostAfter watching the video the only thing I can hear that sounds strange is what sounds like an exhaust leak. The PS pump has sounded very loud like that since I installed it (Advance reman), I have a used OEM unit to put in when I get the time. Fluid level is fine and hasn't moved in 2 years. My Member's Ride Thread

Motor mounts are ESP poly and are in great condition as far as I can tell, I even reinstalled my front wishbone mount with poly insert and it made no difference.Originally posted by GTP View PostDid you check motor mounts for tears/rips excessive movement etc? Could it be piston slap?
I don't think it's piston slap because slap usually goes away after the engine is heat soaked, this knocking is present all the time under the originally stated conditions. My Member's Ride Thread
