    Ground wire kits

... who has or made one?

i was at my friends shop and he had some extra monster cable laying around, so i figured what the hell... so i made some. he told me to connect them to the same points he had his. thermostat/manifold/valvecover(all to frame). i was going to replace the tranny one, but i was to lazy to do it... and im sure its fine. i wasnt too worried about replacing wires i already had, i just wanted to add wires where i didnt have any.

he retuned his car after, and made 7whp(semi-built gsr)... but he said the most noticable difference was it smoothed out the curve.

so for those who have a kit, where do you have it wired too. and what were your results?

I wired it @ the factory grounding points, plus a couple to other "good" grounds. I'll show pics tommorow. But, basically, the only thing I noticed was brighter headlights, and that was really obvious. Besides that, no way to feel 1-2hp, ya know? Just my .02.

hopefully mine should be here this weekend and I will let you know what transpires. My guages dim too and I upgraded the alternator, power wires to 4ga, and even moved idle up. all this helped so far especially moving the idle up to an area where the guages don't dim. Thing is when tach falls below that, gauges dim before it comes back up. That is unacceptable so I am hoping a ground kit will fix it come this weekend. I'll let you know my thoughts when i get it.

          Sport Compact Only.com grounding kit

I got my ground kit from SCO, i hooked them up to all the standard grounding points and noticed that my headlights were def. brighter, even the bumper lights. It seems like my accel. is better, but like someone here said its hard to notice a 2 to 3 hp/tq difference. And my engine is alot more smooth and quiet. But def. look into them. im thinkin bout gettn another kit and seein what that does.

Thanks for this post and reminder, it seems that this does make a difference and it makes sense grounding everything to one common.

i have one too, and also an underdrive crank pulley. Tweaked somethin else last night and the lights don't dim out anymore like they used to for a couple of weeks. Make sure to clean up the contact point of where ever your putting the grounds.

                Setup is:
I have the central block on the firewall
firewall to battery then battery to frame
                head to chassis
firewall to block, block to intake mani
firewall to valve cover, valve cover to chassis

Try to vice clamp the connectors so the wires don't slip out while ur working on other things on the car

                  like 50 bucks

it cost me about 50 bucks, (SCO has free shipping). I asked around before i gottem and everyone told me that wires are wires, just make sure you get a nice set of thick ones. Oh, and my stereo system sounds alot better too.

                    thanks midnight racer

i saw your setup and im thinking of getting another kit so i can run some to the fire wall. I read on a site that your fire wall is def a good place to have atleast one. It provides everything that has contact to the firewall with a little more juice. The intake mani is a good idea too. My instructions just had the basics. But if you read some of Import Tuners Power Pages, they say to try several different grounding points, cause every cars different.
And if you drive an automatic deff. replace the tranny ground. Thats where i noticed a diff. with smoother shifting.

When installing ground wire kits, you connect various parts of the engine/trans all to a common point, correct? Is this common point the same ground for the negative battery terminal? I assume there is a multi-post terminal of some kind you can buy to bring all these wires to a common point, if you don't get what I mean...visualize a 6-plug electrical strip like unit....basically a strip of metal that has mulitple posts to connect various wires.

                      Thanks..

I have one, i'll see if i can find a pic or 2 of it. Its like a triangular shaped piece of anodized aluminum that has about 4 threaded holes in it so 4 wires can attach to it and another hole so u can mount it to something. Conveniently enough theres a screw sticking out of the firewall right behind the intake mani thats perfect for it. I have an ebay R-1 kit btw

                          hyperground

i think the hyperground kit from greddy has something like that, it allows an even flow of electricity. Its a little box you connect to the negative terminal and all of the wires connect form that to the optional ground points. which brings another point, only route the cables to the negative terminal, and the chasis. I think thats what you mean.

they didnt give me any hp but they gave my better response...the rpm's would jump up quicker, better idle, runs kinda smoother.

                              overall, it aint bad.
