    Thermo replacement heat

    Hi All

I tried to replace my thermo because my motor didn't have one, but when I replaced the thermosat- my car heats up quick, and the fans come on within 10-15 mins. Also my motor smells of hot oil

Is it the correct thermostat? Maybe you installed it backwards?

Good you fixed your car, is there a question? Did you see any oil leaks that might lead to the smell?

No oil leaks, but why does my car get so hot fast? The thermo went in correctly, and I even exchanged it just to make sure it wasn't faulty

          Coils: go into the housing
          Not: into the hose

          Right?

Coolant doesn't circulate till the thermostat opens at like 180ish degrees, if you didn't have a thermostat at all before it would reach that temp slower, which isn't ideal. It's not a bad thing if it gets to that temp fast it's good. It shouldn't go much over 200 though. 10-15 min isn't fast to reach that temp either.

Ok, so if my fans turn on after 15mins that's a good thing? - but yet I'm understanding that w/out the thermo the car runs cooler.. Isn't that BETTER..?

Your fans turn on so your car doesn't over heat while the car is sitting still. Cooler isn't better for cumbustion or gas mileage for that matter. You shouldn't drive your car hard till its up to temp.

I'm just nervous about the heating., because she seems to get sooo hot when the thermo is in. -- is there anything else that could be a factor in this?

I use full strength Peak coolant and mix it w/ 50% distiller water

What's your water temp gauge is telling you?

So long as it is not indicating over heating, you are good to go.

Where is the temperature gage needle when it is "sooo hot"? All mine run with the needle just about horizontal (a little below halfway) at normal operating temperature. If it is running close to the top of the scale, that it too high. Where did it run without the thermostat (probably toward the bottom of the scale)? You may just need to recalibrate yourself on what is normal.

Ok, this is tatally good sense.

                        My needle - NOW
No thermostat: stays in normal spot.. About halfway, but w a little give either /or
                        - and I feel the heat of the motor into-the cabin.. I arrive at my destination-(30)mins- 45) mins and it's supper hot.
(the motor itself) o FEEL it's super damn hot

When I put the thermo -

The car get as- hot -- mentioned above^
And I only get nearly, 15 minutes of driving before I pull over and let it cool

I went ahead and installed the thermo again..

However I tried to bleed the system, I could not get any coolant to come out of the blessed valve?

                          Rad and resev.(half)-- full
Motor came up to temp(fans came on twice)

And I even drove the car for about 2 miles and came back to see if I could bleed it and still - no coolant from the bleeder valve

But my bleeder just spits air out??

You want bleeder valve open till steady stream of coolant is coming out. See #8 below.
