been a while since I could get online, its an F22a1 in the car still. I have the Haynes manuel so I know the sequence. And I only have short impact sockets which were hitting the wall of the head... So I should just try again with a 6pt 1/2'' drive socket with a cheater bar to be safe?

You don't need a cheater bar, just a 24" 1/2" drive breaker bar and not the cheap ones. They will shear off.

        I use one like this:

        Not one like this:

DO NOT USE A RATCHETING WRENCH, it will break the ratchet before obtaining the needed torque.

I would say get a 6 point socket and a good sized breaker bar that won't break. And just have a buddy hold down tight on the top of the socket so it doesn't pop off and round the heads. And then push like the HULK lol

how did you miss all of the warnings on torque wrenches SilverFox? If you try it not only will it throw off calibration but possibly strip the ratcheting mechanism...

its the only 1/2'' drive wrench I've got and its already out of calibration and old that a bud of mine didn't want anymore.
I just want to break em loose, cant I just leave the end open where you set the torque on the wrench? trying to work with whatever I got here

No, the ratchet will fail, it has nothing to do with the torque setting. Also a breaker bar is meant to flex, a torque wrench is not. The flex is important to not break other things.

Why? Go down to Autozone and they have a cheap breaker bar like the one I recommend for around $20.

Autozone rents a breaker bar also, just make sure the swivel looks like the one I posted. You get your money back when you return it, just don't use a cheater bar on it or you won't be returning it.

Turned mine loose with a craftsman 1/2" ratchet. No cheater, no breaker bar and certainly no impact.

Go get your "strong" friend and ask him to do it. You really shouldn't need all this shit to take the headbolts off.

No offense, you just aren't strong enough.
