    Gas Smell !!!!

Every Time i start my car up i get a whitish smoke from my exhaust that reaks of gasoline and i figured it was just running rich or it needed a tune up. so i swapped the plugs, wires, cap and filter. But still the same problem and i have to ride with my recirculation switch on with my ac cause if i use the fresh air switch (outside air) itll fill the car with gas smell coming off the engine. Even after i switched all those parts the smell and whitish exhaust when i start the car up continues. is there anything i can adjust to not make it not run so rich or what do yall guys think the issue is here?

I think if you smell gas, there is gas. I think you have a gas leak. The white smoke usually points to a head gasket problem but it could be anything.

Normal cars you cannot smell gas. Do you have a gas leak? (dripping)

Maybe the fuel is leaking onto the engine and burning up?
        No check engine lights?

You said that while driving you have to use the inside air which tells me its coming from the engine compartment. So either the engine is running rich, you have a leak, or you have a faulty O2 sensor (causing more gas into the engine than needed).

Sounds like you need a mechanic to have a look at it.

yeah no CEL and i did ask a mechanic he said "its just old" i was like wtf? and if it is an O2 sensor wouldnt the CEL be on? and what other areas could i check to see if the gas is leaking out

i have the same problem ocassionally, but I am also running a P12 so i thought that might be creating a rich mixture

I will be watching this thread for more progress. i need to fix this problem

When first starting, the O2 sensor doesn't come into play. If you smell fuel from the engine compartment, then you have a leak (check the lines to the filter, to the rail, injector seals, pressure regulator, and return line). If it has been really cold in TX lately, you may just be getting an example of a real cold start like we see up north; my exhaust always smells like fuel on a cold winter morning. If you only smell it from the exhaust, then it is being injected into the engine. Assuming the injector pulse timing is correct, high fuel pressure could be a problem. Get a gauge and check the fuel pressure in the rail. A blocked pump will generate about 60 psi, the regulator cuts it to 30-40 depending on year and vacuum level.

I feel I should add that the actual gas tank itself can rust at the top of the tank and make that gas smell.

Also , an exhaust leak would make a gas smell too.

Today is actually the first day its been kinda chilly in a good while, it went down to 50 lol not very cold down here hahaha and as soon as i get my car back this weekend ill do all the fuel system check. Are there any threads you would recommend as guidelines to go about doing this? Also where would i go to find the gauge to check the fuel pressure? Thank you in advance and appreciate yalls help so far guys!

its the ecu out of the 5th gen prelude with the f22a.

it offers a power upgrade compared to the stock accord ecu.

I think I bought my gage at a local auto parts store. It has a small threaded end that attaches at a plug on the top side of the left end of the fuel rail.
