I know it isn't necessary but I've also made a habit or blowing everything dry with an air hose after I've done mine. If you have access why not? Also, I've used Simple Green when I've done mine but there's always still some spots that are dirty. Has anyone used Simple Green but then found something later that worked better?

Holly hell how hard can you think it be to wash your engine compartment? No Jesus really.
Tip: Covering the fusebox n dizzy is a great idea (really what else would you have to cover, btw) but instead of plastic bags I used aluminum foil because you can mold it and tuck it in about the corners.
        Just an idea.
Tip2: Alot of auto stores sell EngineBrite Foaming, it works nicely and is safe for most materials (there are no warnings on the back of the container about materials either, so its probably okay).
Tip3: Use your elbow grease! Soaking the engine and rinse won't do as good a job as scrubbing (especially the engine block below the dizzy) so break out the brush and do it right pedro.

And last (because cleaning should be intuitive) Pick up some McGuyers Gold (sp) for hoses and plastics - its amazing.

        Awesome!

I also use foaming engine brite. But, I do it at the car wash and use the high pressure to get the tight spots. If your about do to wax the paint again use the tire/engine cleaner at the car wash too. I don't put shiny additives on my engines. I just wipe everything down with the towels I dried the car with. My Dad sprays the rubber and plastic parts with Rust-Olium Clear.

By the way, I've cleaned alot of engines. I am also always concerned about the distributer cap and wires so I rins over them just quick like with the spray gun. I have never had a problem even tho I never cover them. I'm not making any personnal promises, I'm just saying I have never covered them and never had a problem.

I suppose if I ever get to doing this myself---I've had mine done for me lately, I'd could go to the wash bay and use it on low pressure spot free rinse which doesn't put out too much water.

yea because they are pretty much sealed tight. if you have problems they were just problems that were waiting to start. maybe a wire was bad or you didnt tighten your dist. cap down like it needed... thanks for the back up 93cb7

Get your rubber gloves, a good foaming degreaser, a soft sponge, and a few rolls of shop towels to effectively clean the engine bay without the risk of damage.

That's a cool picture. If you don't really concentrate on the details it looks like a super charged LS1 engine picture with that K&N being the Super Charger.
