Looking good guys!^ Nice work, I use Gunk Foamy Engine Brite, works very well, combo'd w/ scrubbing, it will break up the grease/grime pretty well. Sometimes it will take acouple of times to get it right, but it's very well worth it!

Yeah, I know what you mean about the valve cover! Mine did the same thing after the 1st degreasing. I guess it's best to degrease first and completely and then work on painting/detailing/polishing after!

as mentioned, GUNK engine degreaser gets the job done. i spray it sparingly and usually soak up a rag with the degreaser and scrub whatever needs to be cleaned. then i follow it up with a spray bottle filled with water or the hose nozzle set on shower to rinse off the residue. and i don't armor all the motor coz that will attract more dirt and grime and can permanently stain polished parts. my engine usually looks like this after it gets cleaned:

Hmm, you guys are probably doing everything the right way, or should I say, you guys ARE doing it the right way. Me and my nephew used a Tire Shiner. For some odd reason, it cleaned up my engine bay. We pretty much covered my electrical's, and sprayed the Tire Shiner in the bay, let it sit for about a minute or so and then sprayed the bay down with water. Did it about twice, took my car on a run on the highway, came back home, open the hood and it was clean! I don't know if you guys believe me cause I'm only 16, but yea, thats how I cleaned my engine bay.

yeah i used it before shows i used meguiers tire spray but u dont acculy want to keep that on all the time. dirt sticks to it very easy and it also it not made for that heat wise not to good, breaks up the rubber and stuff and spraying it on eloectrical stuff i would trust but a little wouldnt hurt

                              DON'T wash with engine running

or do if you want, but don't say you haven't been warned.

I just replaced my alternator after washing my engine with the motor running. I did my best to keep it dry but still wreaked it just the same.

                              http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=38640

Here is Ghostyman's req on how to wash the engine safely. I know some of you insist you CAN wash with engine running. I just wish I hadn't!
You should not have washed the engine while it was running. It is safe to hose down the alternator while it is off, but you can (and probably did) damage it by heavy spraying while it's running.

There seemed to be a lot of misinformation on that engine cleaning thread. A method that is considered safe is this:

                              1. Start the car and let it idle until it is warm.
                              2. Turn the car OFF.
                              3. Spray the engine and bay with Simple Green degreaser. Let it sit for 10-15 or however long you think is appropriate.
                              4. Hose down the engine bay with a hose.

Important things to note: DO NOT use a high pressure sprayer. It can force water past seals, especially on older cars like ours. I don't use a nozzle or anything that narrows the hose stream.

After you've degreased it, I've had good luck covering the entire engine bay with tire cleaning foam and letting it do it's magic. A water rinse is optional.
90 Accord Ex, F22A4. Slight fire damage.
