Sorry for bumping but its better than creatin new threads on the same topic.

I washed my old EJ2 Civics engine bay and the results were good but not great since I just sprayed the foam and washed it off.

So I need to do it to the Accord and I will need to dedicate an hour to getting as many areas as i can to make it as clean as possible.

I still have an unopened can of engine brite citrus in my garage that I never used, so I'll be using that.

will take before and after pics and post them here.

the weather has been crap and its finally about to get to 55 to 60 degrees in a couple of days.

I find that the Armour All Tire foam works wonders for shinning the engine bay after it's be cleaned. Also I would recommend low pressure when cleaning. I find that a pressure washer is too strong a stream for certain places in the engine bay, but then there can be some places with a lot build up that migth require a pressure washer, but by cleaning it routinely you don't need a pressure washer.

I just replaced my alternator after washing my engine with the motor running. I did my best to keep it dry but still wreaked it just the same.

Here is Ghostyman's req on how to wash the engine safely. I know some of you insist you CAN wash with engine running. I just wish I hadn't!
You should not have washed the engine while it was running. It is safe to hose down the alternator while it is off, but you can (and probably did) damage it by heavy spraying while it's running.

There seemed to be a lot of misinformation on that engine cleaning thread. A method that is considered safe is this:

          1. Start the car and let it idle until it is warm.
          2. Turn the car OFF.
          3. Spray the engine and bay with Simple Green degreaser. Let it sit for 10-15 or however long you think is appropriate.
          4. Hose down the engine bay with a hose.

Important things to note: DO NOT use a high pressure sprayer. It can force water past seals, especially on older cars like ours. I don't use a nozzle or anything that narrows the hose stream.

After you've degreased it, I've had good luck covering the entire engine bay with tire cleaning foam and letting it do it's magic. A water rinse is optional.
I really have to second this advice, this is very true- be careful when you wash your engines and follow the step by step instruction coz I also had to replace my alternator after frequent washings.

Or when you wash your motor you can keep the hose away from main electrical products instead of just leaving it there. Just sayin.

or yeah just keep the water from going to the main electrical parts- as for spraying trans-gloss I don't know-hmmm, just might work: has anyone else done this?

you just can't have a problem wile washing you're engine

cover you're cold air with a plastic wrap , make shore you don't have craked wires and stuff .. if you do just disconect the battery just to prevent shortages and then pass the air all around ... already did a engine wash on my old black cb and it didin't wan't to run smoth .. th idle was jerking but with the engines hi heat temp from running on the hi way evaporated the water i guess cuz it stop after from doing it

good luck ! oh and btw alternators can take all the water you trow at them
