Well I stopped by my mechanics today, to drop of the 2gb ram kit to one of the mechanics in exchange to use the head off his old motor, which is alot cleaner then mine apparently. They also showed me the Head Gasket Set for my car, it is Ishino/Stone which is the supplier for Honda Head Gaskets.

Here is a picture of the label:

Once the head is out of the machine shop, and returned to my mechanic, hopefully tomorrow or wednesday at latest, I will oversee my car going under the wrench, and I'll have one happy/healthy F22A.

Well like all things in life, good things come to those who wait, and like you'd expect from any good machinist, that they would have plenty of customers, and there would be several jobs before mine. Good news is, my "refurbished" head is now complete, and my Mechanics will be picking it up either tomorrow or 7/6.

I've also found a ARP Dealer in North Houston, that i just had order my new arp stud kit p/n# 208-4307, from ARP in California, they should arrive early next week, and they are only $129.

So as soon as the ARP Stud kit arrives, my car will be under the wrench. I'll post pictures of everything when the time comes. Stay Tuned!

Well this has been an interesting week so far, the house a/c died on monday @ 1am, needed a new capacitor, went into work around 9am, to find out that a server had died at work, then today, while I was on my way to work, my tcu failed at exactly 185,000.0 Miles. I ended up driving home, and realized I left my spare ecu/tcu at my mechanics from when the a6 swap was done, so I drove over there, swapped tcu's and my car uses all four gears again, vs 2nd & 4th when the tcu died.

While I was at my mechanics, I got to see my refurbished head, and I took some pictures for everyone to enjoy. Just waiting on the ARP Studs to arrive, hopefully tomorrow, and once everything is said and done, this motor will be healthier then the day I got it, heres to the "like new" top end on this motor!

Well my ARP Head Stud Kit came in today, I now have everything I need in order to proceed with the fixing the headgasket demon.

          Here are the pictures:

Now I'm off to my mechanics to drop my car off, so they can start on it first thing in the morning tomorrow, and I'll have it back tomorrow by 6pm, which I then plan on roadtripping and take new readings from my gauges. I also plan on taking it to the dyno, and dial in the distributer timing more precisely for my current setup, and find out exactly the ideal setting for this motor, and to get updated whp/wtq samples.

Well my gf wanted to check out Barton Springs to go swimming in last time we were in Austin for the meet. So yeah thats the idea I had, just gotta make sure I have the money to do so, money will be tight till (payday next wednesday) because of the car... again... (that + the girlfriend) lol

I'll also be tight on money for the next two weeks since I'm lagging on some bills in order to make sure my car (required for my job), is in proper working order. Once thats behind me, it should be pretty smooth driving (or as popular saying "sailing") from here on out for quite some time, well heres to hoping.

My car is out of the shop today, and is running incredibly well. I don't know if it was because I drove my gf's 2k civic on the way to the mechanic, but my car seems alot peppier, then again its only based off the butt dyno.

I got to see my old head, and the headgasket, and visably you can't see a problem with them, as coolant wasn't entering the cylinders. I believe my motor has been getting robbed of some power due to heat soak caused by the exhaust gasses in the cooling system. Also the knocking (predetonation) like problem seems to have disapeared alltogether (caused by the heat soak?), and no more bubbling coolant bottle, and temps stayed nominal the entire drive home! I wonder how much lost power i've gained back if any... either way the dyno will show us all here shortly.

So far I have 3k on the new head, and everything is going great in regards to that!

During a recent inspection, my front motor mount is toast, and the driver side one is cracked. I replaced the front and rear mounts about a year and a half ago, or 20k miles. So I am looking at replacing all the mounts with poly, and never have to worry about motor mounts again.

I am planning on getting the ESP Traction Bar system w/Front Torque Mount Kit, and also ESP's Poly Automatic Mount Kit (When I go manual, I can always order a manual rear mount then.

I am also looking at replacing both my axels here soon, since I am getting some vibration during hard accelleration from one of the inboards apparently. The boots have never been changed since i've owned the car, and there is no sign of leaking, but that doesn't mean that they originals boots never leaked and were replaced even after the damage was done.

I also did another oil changed with royal purple 10w30, and a k&n oil filter on Wednesday8/5/2009 @ 187k miles.

In about a month I should have the funds together in order to get everything from ESP, and after they arrive, my car will be visiting my mechanics. Then after that new tires, then new axels, then a new denso a/c compressor (since my new year and a half old non-oem one is already leaking very very very very very slowly from a seal, i've known about the leak for the last 2 months, and my a/c still blows cold).

After all that, an intake/exhaust upgrade will be in order, i'm thinking AEM CAI, Bisimoto Stainless Header w/ 3inch collector, to 3 inch stainless flex pipe, to 3inch stainless cat, stainless venturi cone to 2.5 inch, through 14" resonator, then through a 18" resonator, and then to the quietest stainless performance muffler; everything mandrel bent. After that i'll be looking into a bisi lvl 2 cam, and tuning.

Well there you have it, thats what I plan to accomplish by the end of 2010.

nice man sounds like a great plan. i want to see that header in person when you get put on. i bet this baby is going to be a nice deep tone with the intake mods and exhaust. also see your still keeping the stock cam are you leaving that for 2010? and any plans for the suspension?

I would like to upgrade the cam to a lvl 2, I have my old a1 core wrapped up, and sitting in the garage... I just need to figure out a tuning system that is compatible with my automatic... and that alone, along with the logging setup I want isn't going to be cheap. Plus the throwing the bisi header and complete exhaust on a stockish a6 should bring out the best of this motor as it sits, and I'm really curious to see the gains of just the exhaust alone.

In the end, my goals are reasonable for the time allotted.

As for the suspension, I would love to drop it, but I am starting to appreciate its 4x4 status with these crappy roads, driveways, potholes, flooding, etc. (The best of Texas)

I don't slow down for speed bumps, I speed up. The faster I go over the bumps the less my car feels like a boat rocking in the ocean. Who do you think will win in a parking lot derby? The guy thats lowered or me? (Thats a hypothetical question, and I don't go racing around parking lots, the occasional donuts, power slides, or my favorite tray sliding in a deserted parking lot, every blue moon is about the worst of it, at least thats how it was when I was younger... lol)

So I stopped by Advanced Racing Dynamics today, and I scheduled an appointment to do dyno pull on Friday, August 14th at 9:30am, so I can see what my motor has gained back with the refurbishing of the head.

                            God Dammit Motherfucking Rod/wristpin Knock!

Well I took my car to the dyno on friday as planned, and I got some new numbers, but they were actually lower on the dyno this time, then before I refurbished the head. 104.4 whp is what she put out, the power curve was alot smoother though.

After the dyno runs, my motor started making a clicking noise after 2600 rpms, and would get louder the as the rpms got up, so I drove it to my mechanics today, and it looks like I have rod knock or a bad wrist pin. Either way this motor has pretty much at its end... so i have officially parked my car in the garage, and I am going to stop driving it alltogether. I've spoken with my mechanics, and if I was to do a stock bottom end rebuild with parts and labor I'm looking at $2200. If I were to have the bottom end built, with wiseco pistons 11:1 pistons overbored to 86mm, forged rods, do h23 5 speed swap, add hondata & dyno tune, and I could be looking at up to $5000. Time to start saving/raising money for a rebuild, depending upon how much I raise will overall dictate what I do next. I just can't see myself turning my back on this car, but this just breaks my heart.

                            GOD DAMMIT MOTHERFUCKING ROD/WRISTPIN KNOCK! @ 188k

Because I have an automatic transmission, and I can't find really any (key word here is) "GOOD" tuning system that will work. My one and only option seems to be a Apexi AFC-Neo. 5spd swap will run about 1k. If i were to bump the compression, I was thinking 10.5:1. Rock and a hard place anyone?

I'm looking at $1800 in shop labor and other misc parts if I provide the pistons, rings, pins, pin-locks, and rods. $700 approx from bisi for his set. $2500 to go that route with forged internals.Otherwise to rering old pistons, new bearings, headgasket, and other misc parts and labor is $2200. Currently I have $2500-3000, and I'll have another $500+ for the project every two weeks or so. The underlying thing is, I already miss driving my car. (it was my dd yeah, It still drives great other then the noise after 2600rpms that gets loudest at 3200rpms, and gets faster the higher the rev, plus the thunk sound I hear when its first started) but its parked to prevent it from getting worse. The magic number is $5000, with that bumped compression, 5 spd swap, + motor mounts, hondata or equivalent and dyno tune. I'm halfway there more or less but *hold on phone call*... well that was my mom, god damit, it looks like this car is going from a daily driver status to a sunday driver (project car), and my parents are wanting me to find a low mileaege 2-5 year old car that was a lease return, still under warranty to be my next car...
