ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.
2 of 2 < >

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:
http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/forumdisplay.php?f=144
Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

Have you ever changed your brake fluid?

I did, and it killed my master cylinder. Put a new one in and I'm good to go!
The reason I'm asking is I wanted to try out the poll ability and because NONE of my friends do it.

The only time I have really is when I replaced my master cylinder, I don't know if that counts.

^ X2. Brake fluid absorbs water over time, this can lead to corrosion in the master cylinder, calipers, and wheel cylinders. It also reduces the boiling temperature of the brake fluid; on hot days doing a lot of braking can cause the fluid to boil which greatly reduces your ability to stop (been there, done that). EDIT: Now that I think about it, it may have been the master cylinder going bad. That said, it is not so much that the brake fluid itself will boil, but the water in the brake fluid may boil, creating a vapor bubble that will push fluid back toward the master cylinder, creating a large volume that the master cylinder has to make up to collapse the bubble before any pressure can be applied to the calipers and wheel cylinders.

Every couple years, suck as much fluid out of the master cylinder as possible. Gently fill the resevoir with new fluid, then bleed each wheel until you see fresh fluid coming out of the bleeder. You can compress the caliper pistons if you want to get as much fluid out of them as possible. If you have ABS, a dealer has a tool that can be hooked up to turn on the pump and flush the ABS control. I haven't figured out a way to do this at home (my EX is probably due again).

There is a way. I've found it online but I didn't bookmark it

It's not professional. From what I remember you cross two wires, the motor runs. You open a difficult to reach valve and let it run all over....

ABS = high pressure, bad idea

                You need the tool

I changed my brake fluid on my integra because it was black

And if you boil your brake fluid with street use somthing is wrong with you. I have never boiled my brake fluid even with spirited driving in moutains on hot days

Boil brake fluid... that's when your pedal falls on hot days? That happened to me once or twice. It was the inspiration to change it. Then my mc died.

Turns out I did bookmark it:

Neighbors and friends think I'm crazy because I'm literally under the hood of either my cb7 or wife's crv every week.....I'm a believer in preventative maintenance and have yet to break down on the side of the road in either vehicle. Do it now or pay for it later with cash and unplanned wasted time.

Gotta bleed my clutch soon, that fluid turns dark very quick for some reason.

It's way easier then what the brake shops prices suggest. Just make sure you do it right. For bleeding I used this: http://www.motiveproducts.com/
