The other day I was late and in a hurry turning right out of campus. Wide white road paint(road paint is slicker than the road itself) marks mixed with me in a hurry and popping the clutch while turning right produced a couple tires spinning for a second or two. A cop evidently was near and heard me and chased me down. I got a ticket, moving violation, for "Improper Start" costing $240 and requiring a court appearance. He wrote down South Carolina code section 56-5-2110 as the "rule I broke":
"SECTION 56-5-2110. Starting of a vehicle.
No person shall start a vehicle which is stopped, standing or parked unless and until such movement can be made with reasonable safety."
Anyone ever heard of this law applied for this reason? I'm thinking of requesting a jury trial and arguing that this law is completely misapplied to the situation. "Reasonable Safety" is VERY open to interpretation.....Any thoughts?
