Hardparkers Unite! Please read and respond!

Disclaimer: If you have nothing constructive to say click the back button, not the post button. This is a serious thread for a serious cause.

To help out a cause for the greater Fayetteville scene I am starting a petition on cb7tuner and a few other websites to help a friend who is going to city council to get a perminant spot we can hardpark and socialize without fear of police infringing our constitiutional right of freedom of assembly. All I ask is for you to post in this thread you are in favor of or not. Also all advice to prepare us more is welcomed too.

The city police has been pushing us around for no reason for almost a decade(from my experience, I am sure it has been longer though) and it needs to stop. We are tax payers and we pay their salary for them to protect and serve, not harass and instigate. Almost every weekend for the past 9 years I have been out to the local meet. Every year we are forced to find a new place to rid ourselves of police harassment. Everyone needs to join together and say we have had enough... In a democratic way. This is why I have chosen to help, I have simply had enough, the last straw was a couple nights ago when an alarm went off at the TJMax next to Circuit City(our meeting parkinglot). When the police arrived, instead of checking out the building for broken windows or doors, they came straight over and started yelling at us to leave. We are smarter than the average "bear" and had our police radios on when the alarm started blaring. We heard the call for the alarm, we watched them come in and say there was nothing going on over there(without even inspecting the building) but there were "suspected streetracers on scene". Then they turned on their blue lights and got on their P.A.'s and proceeded to force everyone out of the parking lot.

It looks like common sence that they would perfer us there. Here is why:

    1. Everywhere we have been there is no crime there, no vandals, no break ins, our presence deter criminals simply because of the quanity of people.

    2. We are all in a single area. Why not sit one cop to watch the lot and leave us be instead of disperse us all across the city where there is more chance of accidents, more chance of streetracing, and more chance of agressive driving due to the injustices of the "athorities".

    3. If they had one officer "babysitting" us they would be much more successful when attempting to bust street racers. Whenever you see a large group of cars exiting the lot just radio in if it appears they are going to be racing. It is quite obvious when you think about it, all the streetracers who leave the lot to race rev their engines and accellerate quickly out of the parking lot and most are stupid enough to just take it to All American which is a few hundred yards away.

In Texas, California, Nevada, Idaho, Floridia and New Mexico(I am sure more places but those are the ones I have experienced) the police work with the car enthusiests. Why can't they do it here?

    I'm in favor of this.
We have the same problem here in my city, also if you have a modified car around here they pull you over for no reason, its gotten worse the past few months to.

over here we used to meet up at a denny's. we got harrassed a ton. we eventually just asked the owner if we could be there every saturday and he agreed. we always went in and ate anyways and we always attracted others so its was all good. go to an establishment and ask the owner permission. get a written copy of his/her permission if you can too!

lots of restaurants around Madison encourage this type of gathering on a specific night of the week. Brings in customers, and most of the attendees go in and eat as well.

                  This.

I did web design for a car club some years ago and we had a contract with the owner of the business that we parked out in front of...it helped that he was an automotive parts store but nonetheless the contract kept the police far away.

They would only roll through during car shows to make sure all was ok, but reg sat night meets if they came through it was to check out the cars.

good luck cobalt, i hope you get something going.when i was hanging out back in the day , we had the same problem. always told to leave.when i was 20 though we would all meet up at my pops tire center and the cops would sit down the road and watch us like a hawk.lol , it ate them up ,and one night they seen a dude that we didn't know and he had a beer that the cops saw. they pulled in and searched us and pop came out and told them to piss off , they were on private property .the cops left and pop told that dude he owed him 100 bucks and he paid and left, on my way home his integra was getting towed and the cops got his ass.get a attorney and ask him what you can do . asking the owner will work though. hope all goes well.

A man that keeps looking back can't see whats in front of him.

I think you might have an solution to your problem. Go to a specific place like a restaurant, ask the owner and see what they say. If they agree then you're in the clear, if not then you might have some problems. The thing is, most large parking lots where there are stores have "no loitering" signs posted and this gives some power to the police and they will use that power.

What are the police going to charge you with if you don't leave the parking lots? Trespassing on private property, failure to comply with an officer's orders, illegal gathering, causing a disturbance (by refusing to leave)

The best solution has been offered already: get permission from the business owner to use their lot, if your group is largish (more than say ten rides) move meets to an eating establishment and then behave while you're there. The owners and managers love the extra business your groups brings, plus it also brings other people in to see what's going on and they usually stop and eat something.

Here in NY we've been thru it too. When 10 or more persons are gather in a public location without a permit or permission from the property holder, it is refered to as "illegal assembly", its a 250.00 fine per person, that's what you can get charged with.
