First Hellcat swap

Pfff, engine's overrated. For one, 700hp is not that much in a V8 these days and can certainly be had for less than what a Hellcat crate engine goes for (saw $23k at one Mopar site, normal price $25k). And B, Dodge really needs to stop calling their engines "Hemi." Wasn't Chrysler's last true hemi in about '70/'71?

I'm mostly impressed by the undertaking and execution of the swap. I'm not a mopar guy and could care less about the engine.
It's pretty neat they basically put a 2015 Charger into the 68.
Besides by the classic definition of a "Hemi" our F22 and H22 meet that design. Just something to chew on.

This is a hemispherical combustion chamber, notice how it's a perfect dome aside from the valves. "Hemi" means half, "sphere" is a sphere.
Modern "Hemi" heads are not hemispherical. Honda heads are nowhere near (at least nothing remotely modern; I think Nissan and Toyota used hemi heads in the '80s)... I know H22 chambers aren't even circular. This is what Chrysler's current "Hemi" heads look like (6.1L SRT-8 at top, 5.7L R/T at bottom):

I think Dodge has some cool cars out. I'd probably have a Challenger myself if the body of the thing wasn't designed so damn tall, and I've been seriously considering a Magnum as a future project car for a while now. I just hate the Hemi name, and how Mopar guys think it's such hot shit.Last edited by CyborgGT; 09-29-2015, 09:39 AM.

I agree about the whole Hemi thing being annoying. It's now just a brand name. It's as if Honda were to progress beyond any form of variable valve timing, and still put "VTEC" on their engines.
Regarding the swap, though... my first thought was "that seems like a waste, since you could probably build an oldschool V8 to make more power for less money!"... but then I actually watched it, and saw that the engine was supplied by Dodge via a sponsorship... so yeah, that makes total sense! Also, the more I thought about it, the more I compared it to a CB7. I could make 200hp with an F22A and suffer driveability and reliability issues, or I could swap in a stock H22A and have it function as reliably and comfortably as if it rolled off the lot that way.
A 700hp 68 Challenger with a modern Hellcat engine would be more reliable than a 700hp 68 Challenger with some home-built piece. 700hp Dodge crate engines are still going to cost a fortune... though I did manage to find and oldschool Gen II Hemi built by Indy Cylinder Head that makes 770hp for under $17,000.

It's so sad to think that every part of them must be scrapped, or at least not permitted for road use (I believe some companies still donate parts from test cars to schools and whatnot...)
I've only ever seen two Hellcats in my life. Actually, there's a possibility that it was the same car twice.
A greasy fat slob of a dude that owns a steak shop one town over, or so I assume... seeing as his Hellcat was parked illegally in front of the shop, he came out without carrying anything, and nobody that owns a $60,000+ car would ever go to that shop in the first place.

I started watching the YouTube channel Everyday Driver. Great reviews by two guys and they usually do old school cars. Well cars everyone loved from the past, RX8, R32, Sions, S2000, BMW, Audi, etc. They did a good review of the Challenger Hellcat and of course the Camero. Check them out when you can.

I'll have to watch that.
To me, cars that I could actually afford to own interest me more. Cars worth more than what I bring home in a year are cool... but they lose their appeal when I realize that I'll likely never be in a position to own one (even if I made substantially more money, I don't think I'd bother buying a car worth more than my current house!)
A review showing me the cool stuff about a decade-old RX8 that I could have in my driveway for $9000... THAT'S something I can get into! Literally!
