And what if the discussion leads to people realizing what the problem is and what they shouldn't do themselves in the future. Besides being off topic I don't see the harm in this. Like in this thread, I'm sure we all learn more about the person behind the screen name(RnRicer and the people who comment) and we learn what the forum and mods expect of people in such a thread.

Basically, when someone gets hurt and cares enough to put us at the top of the list of people to tell, it's kinda crappy to make such an ignorant statement. If we were all sitting in a room with Dave, and someone had the lack of sense to say something so thoughtless, he'd get torn to shreds. Basically, Jose made 2 comments that were uncalled for, and we didn't need this thread turning into a.) A fight between those that like Dave and those that think he's an idiot, or b.) a thread bashing Dave for the past stupid things he may have done, on the assumption that his current situation was a result of a similar act. The story shows that he did NOTHING stupid. Even let his friend drive because he had been drinking (I'm assuming, probably falsely, that the friend was in a better condition to drive... still, it's unrelated to the incident). Jose (d112crzy) has a reputation for stirring up trouble, and this is not a thread where we need that. I didn't do the actual banning, but I agree with it. Jose will be back, no grudges will be held (he's been banned many times... he understands when he crosses the line, usually before he does it... and accepts the consequences)

As for the reply to the question of why he was banned, that's all the reply it needed. A moderator determined that the post was uncalled for, and the fact that there was a second similar post shortly after made it necessary to put a stop to it. We don't have the time or responsibilty to clean up after everyone that wants to drop a turd. We also don't need to clean up the aftermath of such a comment. A thing like that would've snowballed into a flame war, and more people would've been banned, probably for more than 3 days. Jose has a history of getting under people's skin. Based on that history, the ban was necessary.

It's not so much that the decisions of the moderators shouldn't be questioned... it's just that a public questioning does nothing. One person asks, others chime in with their opinions, and suddenly people think it's a democracy. What is done is done for the good of the board. I've banned good friends of mine (hell, for an online friend, Jose IS a good friend of mine). It's never personal, and it's not a matter of what we feel like doing.

You could see how giving lengthy answers like this EVERY time we make a decision would become tedious... and you KNOW by being on this forum for a while that people will most likely skim or skip it altogether and throw their two cents in anyway!
