ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

Reliability rating of your CB7 on a scale 1-10

Curious how reliable these cars are. I just got a 93 wagon and before I turn it into my daily was wondering how reliable these Hondas are?

On a scale 1-10 what would you rate it? 10 being best and 1 being worst.

What are the problem areas on these cars?

How tough are the problem areas to work on?

    Thanks!

It's a Honda. Why would it not be reliable? These things run forever. A timing belt will kill the engine if you aren't careful about that. The plastic door handles on the interior break a lot (never experienced it knock on wood). These cars are relatively easy to work on once you start to look up what you need help with. There's a lot of DIY write ups on this site. Transmission issues for automatics surface a lot. Usually a bad solenoid or worse tcu is bad or has damaged parts that you can replace.

So all in all I would give this an 8 for reliability. It's a good car even after 20+ years

yeah, 8 is a good number I'd say..

My CB7 has suffered plenty of abuse, and survived most of it. Honestly, the car has NEVER stranded me due to anything that wasn't a direct result of something stupid I did. It's hard for me to give an accurate rating, since it's failed on me plenty of times... but every time was because I've halfassed something, did something stupid out of ignorance, or just ignored something that should not have been ignored. Even with all that, the car has been amazing. Got me home with a seized throwout bearing (120 miles of clutchless shifting), got me home when the #2 spark plug was coming out (due to damaged threads caused by overtightening), essentially running on 3 cylinders and knocking in #2. Survived a 3rd gear redline to 2nd downshift (short shifter made my shifting so notchy that I didn't realize I was going to 2nd instead of 4th.)

            1996 through 2005 I rate it a 10.

2005 through today I give it 7 maybe 8, but that's only because I keep modifying and really abusing it.

I buy cars that have been abused and then put an additional $500-$700 of repairs into them and they are very reliable at that point. I would trust my coupe to drive from TX to Seattle to NY and back with just an oil change and gas ups.

I work out of my home shop and would not be afraid to take ANY of this car apart on my own. There are cars I am afraid to take apart though...

                9. 45,000 miles in 2 years and the only thing that didn't allow it to move was a bad igniter.

                Also just hit 184,000 miles.

It's a 20 year old car. Mine still is on the original motor/auto tranny at 237k and runs like a top. But with any old car, it needs stuff replaced. Ive done all the suspension, bushings, ps rack, cooling system and mantiance items, not because they stranded me, but because they were showing signs of age. I probably could of not done any of them and the car still be functioning today.

CB's have been by far the absolute best older cars I've owned.

My white coupe was probably the best car I have ever owned. Less problems than my '08 Civic. I'd give reliability an 11 on that particular CB.

There's a reason I still love CB's. They look good, drive great, and have damn near bulletproof reliability and are super easy to work on.

                      OUCH

on topic tho, in the 7 years and 54000 miles ive owned my cb7, all ive had to replace is an alternator, battery, master cylinder, brakes, plugs, wires, amd a $75 coil (KNOCK ON WOOD)

My experience with every Honda I have driven and owned (still own everyone of them except one - driveway is like a car yard/museum).

The only time I got stranded and worse neglect I have ever committed was to put off replacing the timing belt on my CRX due to financial constraints and lack of motivation to learn and change it myself. Nearly cost me a new engine.

My mechanic said 99% of the time if the belt snaps valves are bent and a second hand engine is the way to go (costing 4 times more than just a routine timing belt change). I was so lucky and now know how to change timing belts and have done so on a CB7 and CD6

As far as the CB is concerned if its possible to give it more than 10 It certainly deserves it.

Original engine and transmission, starter motor, power window motors, no sunroof leak, no cracked dash etc etc etc .....after 22 years defies belief and is beyond expectations even for a new car today.

                          PS:

I have changed many parts on my dad's CB and my CB but much of it was due to the previous owners neglect and lack of awareness or maintenance.

Alot of accord owners just use the car without any care for maintenance. They end up accumulating repairs, maintenance for when they get rid of the car to the new owner who inherits the bill and any knock on effects.

I have owned 8 CB7/9s and still have four of them. We have driven them for a total of almost 500,000 miles. Only once was one stranded, balance shaft seal blew out (my wife was driving it). It was only 5 miles from home - was able to get it back by loading up on oil.

I've only had mine for about 3k kilometres.

Interior quality is good (though I keep spilling coffees... No cupholders? Seriously)

                              Steering feels right.
                              Suspension is tight
                              Doors all great.

Windows suck, the rubber seals go bad and then things break, I've had cars the same age with fully functioning windows so I'll give it a 7-8/10 for the body just due to the windows.

Engine is great, F22A6 is boring but can be a bit of fun.
Gearbox sucks, almost dead at 256,000km, input shaft bearing. Will probably see 270-280 before dying completely. I'll learn how to change a gearbox soon no doubt.

Apart from the input shaft bearing its a good box though, synchros go alright.

Biggest issue I have is how boring it is, the cabin is too quiet, the handling is okay but not fun. Its too comfortable and modern feeling to be interesting.

I'm really contemplating selling my cb7 and getting an Integra instead.
