ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Yikes guys, rotor bolts!!

    Hello hello my people,

I am in the process of doing my front breaks and am having some serious trouble getting off the 4 bolts that mount the rotors. I have tried taking a breaker bar to them, spraying them with penetrating lube and also hittin them with my impact gun. The bolts are a serious pain in the ass as they are counter sunk so that the heads of them are flush with the rotors themselfs. The bolts are now starting to strip and are seriously soft as baby food. How can I get these bad boys out? Is this a commonality with these rotors? What a stupid setup!! lol.. Anyways, comments are much appreciated as usual.

    Thx

    Here's a pic

Are you replacing the rotor? Those are c'bored not c'sunk. I use a 250ft-lb 3/4" drive impact and they came right out. If you can't get them out at all you might as well replace the hub/bearing combo too. You are aware you will need to remove the axle nut to replace the hub as well. The rotor needs to slide over the bearing to come off. Stick a screw driver in a rotor slot through the caliper so you can remove the axle nut.

I just took these apart the other day

I had some issues trying to do it by hand but my impact took it apart without any issues.

Heat gun or torch always work wonders on frozen bolts and nuts.

I am not familiar with area you are working on so proceed with caution if you want to use heat for easy removal of bolts.

Heat is helpful, but if he heats the hub to make it release the bolts he will possibly damage the bearing grease depending on how hot the hub gets... Just a thought.

Unfortunately my impact gun is relatively entry level and it doesn't put out a whole hell of a lot of tourqe. As for my compressor it's also just your quintessential household compressor. Even when I put the gun on the bots the 14ml socket is just starting to spin and strip the bolts. I really don't want to have to go to the whole extent of replacing the assemblies as this is just extra money and labor. I did however think to hit them with some heat but searched high and low for my torch with no luck..

Thanks for the correction, I really like to be able to call things how they are in mechanical terms. C'bored it is

Depending on the shape of the bearing it may destroy it when you remove the hub/bearing assembly to slide the rotor off. Just a heads up.

I used a small corded impact gun and a 14mm socket and i kept it on there for about a minute straight. And BAM it came out.

I got all of mine off pretty easily, except for one single bolt that stripped down completely. I ended up welding a steel bar bent like an L to the bolt and then hammering it loose.

If the bolt heads strip, you can use a tool you hammer on to what's left of the head and then use it just like a regular socket. Pick up new bolts and use anti-seize when you get to re-installation.

A couple doses of penetrating oil a day or so before you try to remove anything rusty or old is the best way. Yes it may take a day, but it will always work.

yeep. that tool works great for folks without welding equipment.

I don't know why no has suggested this....
Just drill them out. That's what I did.
