ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

Im having a problem with my crank pulley. It keep wobbling and throwing my belts. went to check it and its just a bolt there. is there supposed to be a lock washer or something and if so would you happen to know what size of a washer i would need to buy? thank you in advance!
Also the model is a 1991 honda accord EX

Is the bolt on tight? Does the entire pulley wobble or just the outside?

There is supposed to be a washer (not lock washer). OEM washer is about 1.7 inches outer diameter and 0.230 inches thick. Your bolt is probably bottoming in the hole in the crank before clamping the pulley. Hopefully it hasn't been that way for long and torn up the inside diameter of the pulley and outside diameter of the crank.

Are you sure that it's the centre of the pulley coming loose at the crank, and not the harmonic balancer mass separating from the centre of the pulley?

do you have a picture of the bolt that's in there? Typically the crank pulley is held on by a big bolt that has a captured washer permanently attached to it. If the washer isn't there, like said above, the bolt may be bottoming out in its hole before properly clamping down on the pulley, leading to a looseness/wobble. I'd suggest getting a replacement OEM bolt from the dealership or junkyard.... 90017-PT0-003

Alternatively, the OP may just be incorrectly identifying the washer. Like, they may think its part of the crank pulley and the bolt has no washer, when it actually does. In that case, the dampener part of the pulley (outer ring) may just be separating and leading to the looseness/wobble.

Either way, actually removing the crank pulley and bolt will make it clear which is happening...

            this...

I think his "pulley" is separating from it self...

make sure the rubber isn't cracked/dry rotted/deteriorated. If it is, you can buy a new harmonic balancer for around 50 bucks at Autozone. It'll come with the woodruff key as well.

If you do replace it I would recommend going to Honda and getting a new bolt. When I replaced mine I had to get another one cause the old one got messed up when it wobbled and would back itself out over time.

Assuming the problem is the rubber in the harmonic balancer separating, then the bolt won't have been affected because it won't have come loose (the centre of the pulley would have remained tight as the damper mass was wobbling on the central part of the pulley).
