ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Shutting off/no start

Okay so here is the run down. My girlfriends little brother's 1991 Honda Accord has been acting stupid lately.

First off one day it wouldn't start. So I came over and saw that the fuel pump wasn't priming but the check engine light would go off when the key was in the number two position. So I figured the fuel pump was bad. So I replaced that, after replacing it we tried to start it and had no spark. So we swapped a known working distributor onto the car and it started and ran great. Couple days go by and it back to doing the same thing.

He says the car will just start to loose power then the car will shut off and it won't start after that.

Any helpful information or tips would be gladly appreciated it, because I am stuck scratching my head at the moment.

Test voltage from the alternator. Should be over 14 volts under load.

Wouldn't if the alternator was bad it would still run until the battery died?

Saying that power dies and it won't starts makes me think the battery ran out of juice. And the fact you can't start it after says the battery is drained.

        Test the alternator.

Okay correction. The car loses power as in fuel power no drive. Then it'll crank and crank and crank and not start.

(Hold on, first did you pull your codes )
            ...ignitor.

If you're an honest guy (like me) its about $5 at the junkyard
            Its code 15

I don't have any CEL, but I'll research the ignitor and see if I can find any hidden codes maybe.

Any other tips would be good

Are you talking about the ignition coil that is inside the distributor? Because if so wouldn't that have been ruled out when I replaced the distributor?

Or are you talking about the ignition control modual? Those are the only two things I can pull up under ignition at autozone.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. Im suggesting that you reset the ecu (remove the neg. battery cable for some minutes) then check your codes as shown in the link. If it's code 15 that's the ignitor/ ignition control module.

My bet is that it's the ignitor because a new distributor solved the problem, albeit temporarily.

I had a similar problem and went as far as buying a fuel pump. Luckily someone suggested ignitor before I installed it. Very easy cheap fix to a big problem. I have external coil tho

It could be something else, but pulling the codes won't hurt

The fuel pump not priming is usually the main relay under the dash. If this cuts out while driving, the car will die as well. This is a more common problem than the ignitor.

Already ruled out main relay when I replaced it and the CEL clicks When the key is in the number two.

I also switched Ecus and still doing the same thing

Does the tach bounce while trying to start the car?
