ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.
2 of 2 < >

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    My sob story/ need advice

I have a '93 accord ex m/t, burgundy metallic with cloth interior. 152k miles but leaking no oil. The frame is 100% spotless and the body is also in fair condition.
Now what's wrong you might ask? Everyone. I repeat everyone makes fun of my car for the simple fact it is a 1993 Honda Accord. My community is considered one of the wealthier ones in our area and true to our fashion I got a very nice '04 grand am w/ 50k miles and no rust from my dad. Then this accord came into our shop and I dropped the grand am in a heartbeat for it, gave the car to my mom and bought this one.
My major dilemma is whether I aught to listen to everyone and invest absolutely no money in this accord, or stick with my gut feelings that this simple of a car, with this much potential in it won't come along anytime soon. I have a chance to make something great out of my honda and I have the skill and tools to do just about anything to it. With the ideas and support generated in this forum, anything is possible, but I've finally reached the breaking point in how much flak I can take over a car.
My dad is talking about selling this car when I go to college and if I do well replacing it with a newer Acura Tsx or Subaru Impreza. I have always been a fan of middle 90's jap cars and I simply don't know. I know I sound like a spoiled suburbanite kid and I won't deny I may be but help me out guys, tell me what you think I should do
Being normal is probably the lamest thing you can try to be

I'm (sorta) in the same dilemma as you.
I could fix every little problem with my car, and run it till it dies
    OR
I could put an H22 in it and make it my own personally race car

I haven't figured it out yet. I'd say stick around and get a feel for what you want to do.

A few retorts that I use often:
    • FUCK YOU!
    • I drive a superior foreign automobile.
    • My car works, does yours?
    • If my car is so shitty, why do we take it everywhere?
    • I (subtly throw in) realistically plan to keep this car till at least 600k. Bout chu?

At this point I would throw in a link to a great thread about how american cars suck, but somebody got greedy and now it's gone. I have the cliff notes, if you want I'll PM then to you.
    MRT
37.5 MPG, AC on, cruising at 80.
30.0 MPG, AC on, aggressively driving around 90.
27.5 MPG, no AC, cruising at 90 with occasional gridlock. 40 degrees Fahrenheit

Lots of DIY videos specifically for our car

Get some awesome wipers! <-- It's a DIY

^ I noticed in other threads that this guy was banned. I'm guessing this idiotic comment is what did him in?

To the OP: other people's opinions on such trivial things should never matter. It's your car, you know it can be great[er!], so just go for it! When I first got my CB, the plan was to scrap it after saving up for what most enthusiasts would consider a "real" car or at least something popular enough to have a huge aftermarket. Then I stumbled upon this gem of a site and discovered I can have the performance I want and still drive a very practical car, it's a win-win in my opinion. I've looked through damn near every Member's Ride thread and am thoroughly convinced that the bandwagon mentality can go to hell. Besides, I love our little community. As much as I do love all other cars, just looking at the guys that typically drive Mustangs/F-bodies, STis/Evos, Civs/Tegs, etc... I know I don't want to be a part of that. I can't recall ever seeing that kind of douche-baggery on CB7Tuner, our new guys tend to clean up real well. Nobody even [seriously] rags on the guys repping automatics, there is respect everywhere and that's maturity.

Do what YOU want to do! Nobody can make that decision for you... well, unless your dad sells the car behind your back and gets you something else anyway. In which case you can sell the newer car for another CB and a nice collection of go-fast parts!

        It wasn't that post.

OP: There will always be someone out there with more money and a nicer car, or clothes, or whatever it may be. In the end you got the car because it's what you wanted, like, and what makes you happy. Screw them. You're building the car for YOU after all aren't you? Look through the member's ride section here when you can. There's more than enough motivation in there lol.

I don't think you sound like a spoiled kid. You're approaching the issue calmly and rationally. You found a car you like and prefer to keep it. If your dad can afford to hook you up with a new car for college, let him, but tell him you'd like to keep the Accord as a toy, then you have a new dependable DD, and the Accord to build into whatever you want.

Define wealthier. If it is what I'm thinking of, no way is an 04 grandam being true to the fashion.

Bro don't feel bad man. I've been running into the same issues and it make me want to slap the hell out of them when they say " that car is old and shitty, don't waste your time and money on that car." I tell them if they don't want to see me in this car then go buy me a new car and if not then f#ck off. Don't let nobody tell you what YOU should drive. That's just how I feel about it.

about to get my hands dirty!

It's mind over matter. You don't mind and they don't matter. I had a guy try to give me a Porsche 911 (turned it down, that's not why I was helping him). I would have sold it and used the money for kid's college and to maintain my Accord (only had the 90 and the time). I now have four in the family - they've been the best cars I've ever owned. I like the 90 so much, even at 305,000 miles that I'm replacing the rusty rear quarters. People kid me about it, but I enjoy the challenge (and I think some are jealous that their cars won't make it that far and that they can't or won't maintain them so that they will last). I plan to drive the 90 until I die or it gets run over by a trunk (hopefully not both at the same time).

There is nothing more prestige about a 6 year old low end pontiac sedan over a cb7.

Besides, college is different from your neighborhood. No one has money at school. If you get a TSX to fit in, it will have the opposite effect at school.

I would keep the Accord running. These cars are absolutely awesome. I love the way they drive, feel, and run. My Accord has become crappy because I was in the same dilemma and didn't worry about anything. I just had the mindset of "I'll run it until it dies."

Now I have a newer Accord that I also enjoy, however, I still miss the 91'. I plan on getting her road ready over the summer and fixing up some rust. These cars are great cars and parts are fairly cheap.

It's all up to you, but if the car you have is in great shape, keep it that way.

                        To the op;

I get flack too for this car. Im old(er), and most of my friends are doing awesome and modify evo's and STI's and various V8's. So what.

Ive been apart of the DSM crowd for a long time, and currently have 3 DSM's as well as my CB. I get more shit from my DSM buddies then anyone. I have a hx35 powered dsm, a 18g powered dsm, and a T3 60-1 powered dsm, that Ive been working on/owned for 10'ish years.

I also DD a cd5 accord, and have an '05 Dodge ram for pulling my boat and jet ski. My jetski, is supercharged from the factory. Yes, my jetski has a supercharger, I did say that.

                        So what?

                        My wife drives a G35.

See where im going with this?

As you get older, all these fucks that flip you shit will get into their own thing, just like you will too. The way to seperate yourself from everyone else, is by not giving a shit about what other people think is cool. Who cares what anyone else thinks. Could I drive an EVO, sure. I pay about 4 evo's worth of payments every month to own my house. I also save about an evo and a half because I dont want to work until the day I die.

                        More important question;

Am I happy with me/my life?
                        Bet your ass I am.

Dont let anyone else run your show kid, do what you want and you will be 10times happier then the next guy!

Dont ever let anyone tell you its wrong to be sellfish. If you arent taking GREAT care of yourself, and doing everything that you want and fullfilling YOUR dreams, then whats the point of all this BS we call life?

Now for this dad to chime in...
As some of you know, I have two Accords. I drive the wagon, and I gave the coupe to my son. I build the wagon and he has almost zero interest in cars. Yet recently I was given the chance to get rid of the coupe and the zillions of problems to get a Toyota Tercel with a brand new engine. I am glad to say my son, not me said "Dad, I want to keep the coupe since it has way better features and roomier too." I am not at all near wealthy, in fact I'm below the poor index. Yet we got some bucks and fixed the coupe and sold the Toy. I figure ..he is in college and needs a good reliable set of wheels. He also needs a car that will be there after he is done that won't break down or need payments. I realize a "Dad" bought fancy one will come new and paid for, but it's just that..a fancy cookie-cutter car.
Your CB7 may never grace the status of luxury cars....But while all of those cars shell out mega bucks for repairs, upkeep, and gas (almost $200 to fill a tank) you will roar down the street or nicely cruise on by knowing your car is you. Not some status symbol piece of Detroit repair me every month, gas drinking, rude I own the road, and snob filled metal.

So basically you wanted your son to have a dependable and reliable car for college. Choice 1 was a Toyota Tercel with a brand new engine and choice 2 was a CB7 with tons of problems. I applaud your fatherly intentions but seriously? Logical choice would be one with less issues, hence the reliability/dependability factor...

My car has a 20 gallon tank and uses premium, it doesn't even top out at $100 with gas being ~$3.40/gallon. No status symbol car is built from Detroit. You must be a young dad cause you sounded like you are 16.
