Sucks its so cold outside! even though its in the garage and you probably have that propane heater on.

        Good luck on the install!

as you can tell it was a mess in there, so last night i did a lot of cleaning and preparing.

          i replaced:

          • oil pan & oil baffle gaskets
          • rear main seal (plus retainer gasket)
          • pilot bearing

i also did a LOT of cleaning, which took the majority of the time. everything was covered by a thick layer of wet-oiled grimey sludge. the inside the block looks pretty good, just there was some caked-on sludge at the very bottom of the pan, as well as a few chunks built up on the oil pickup. thats all cleaned up now, as you can see from the pics.

it was nice to find that the starter is actually a pretty fresh remanufactured one, so i dont need to worry about old stock contacts. ill check my receipt book to see when that was actually put in though.

im going outside in a few minutes to finish putting the clutch in, then ill be trying to find a way to lift my transmission back up into place... more pictures then!

last night i finished getting everything put together, i got the clutch bolted on and managed to lift the transmission back into place on my own, using a combination of a floor jack and an engine hoist. i reinstalled all of the axles as well as the exhaust and all of the little things. it was getting late so i spent the end of the night cleaning up the garage, tonight after work the only things left to do are reinstall the shifters and fill the transmission with oil. clutch is already bled, so tonight ill be seeing how this drives! im excited... anyway, heres the rest of the pictures.

                  new flywheel

                  new disc and pressure plate

                  new slave cyl

                  new throwout bearing

i stopped taking pictures at this point but there isnt anything exciting to see, besides the fact that everything is back in place where it should be. ill get final pictures tonight...

                        x2 hahaha

When we were changing the clutch/flywheel to this D21 Nissan hardbody pick up, I was lifting the back of the bell housing by hand through that shifter linkage hole. Definitely going to use a cherry picker next time.

                        Well done.

I did this exact same thing to a toyota truck at school last semester, Granted i had a lift and tranny jack. When i got done i wanted a toyota truck.

Maybe i will find one soon.

ive been driving this for the past couple days and i have to say its GREAT to drive. great clutch response and it grabs solidly and smoothly.

shifter is a BILLION times better with the new solid seat bushing (there wasnt any previously, it disintegrated) and fresh oils.

last night after the snow, i took it out to the local highschool, where normally i would slide around in the parking lot - but this time, i drove ALL OVER the place, over curbs, through grass (snow) areas, over flights of stairs, everything. it was a BLAST!

i am running Advance Auto Parts engine oil (UGH) with a Fram filter (UGH) just for now, hopefully very soon ill be able to finish with a full tuneup, including cleaning of the top half of the engine. ill be doing seafoam in the gas / oil / intake and changing out the oil as well as double-checking over everything that ive done recently to make sure its holding up.

it also needs an alignment and inspection very soon.

also, i need to shampoo & scrub the front seats. picked up a lot of dirt/grease from when i was sitting in the seats, working on the shifter :\

oh, and i dont know if i had mentioned this, but while we were working under it, justin noticed the gas tank had a leak :\ so im going to have to pull that off and try to patch / replace it, and i have a feeling im going to end up doing the fuel lines & filter at the same time (both are rusted out), but well see what happens.
