Please DO NOT Post In The General Section
From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.
The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.
For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.
Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.
Again if you have any questions, PM me or one of the other mods.

still haven't received my leakdown checker.
I noticed I never got a confirmation number.
called harbor freight they never got the order.
so I ordered one today!
I have cylinder compressiopn checker, but I need this leakdown checker.
not exactly sure how to use one.
but it looks like insert into cylinder and other side into air compressor.
guess I will see shortly.
not sure how it tells the difference between valve, rings, or headgasket.
I will know soon. doin extensive research.

and from what i understand:
warm up engine.
leave all plugs in except for one that is being worked on.
secure crank bolt so it can not move.
insert leakdown tester portion
plug other side to air compressor.
start at 0 psi.
open radiator cap
if coolant leaks out, there is a head problem.
so I dont turn anything myself just let the pressure do that as it builds?Last edited by drummersteve7; 04-09-2010, 10:28 AM.

ok so looked it up...
few things, please correct me if I am wrong:
leak air through throttle body = intake valve issue
leak air through exhaust = exhaust valve issue
coolant leaks out there is a headgasket issue
and this last one kinda gets me:
Air coming out of the breather vent or PCV valve fitting would tell you the rings and/or cylinders are worn.
seems to be my case... soo yeah.. um shit!

Leak throught rings is natural, but only a certain percent. My h23a1 leaked down through rings only at less than 4% on all cylinders. Basically the cylinder will hold 96psi when you're putting in 100psi. Also, make sure the piston is at tdc when you check it. You know you're doing it right when the car tries to jerk foward lol. I usually put it in gear and hold the brake tight while it is getting tested.
EDIT: and I did my leakdown when the engine was cold, so 4% cold and probly alittle less when warm. If you have that much air escaping when warm you might have a problem lol.Last edited by F22HB; 11-17-2010, 04:45 PM.
