finally got some shit done to this thing...

    - pulled apart the intake manifold and stuff to clean it out
    - replaced the valve cover gaskets
    - replaced all injector seals/orings/screens/pintle caps
    - new power steering pump & pulley & a couple lines
    - new distributor cap and rotor
    - new plugs and wires
    - new pcv

did a compression test, five cylinders were great (180) but one was a little low (150) but im not going to worry about it.

    - i also poured B12 into the almost-empty gas tank, and seafoam into the oil.
    - did a typical seafoam treatment through the intake
    - adjusted the timing

it is running SO WELL right now!!!! its amazing how much power was freed up, i think most of it was due to the really poor condition of the old plugs. what is a large buildup of white crust an indicator of? most people said its from either predetonation (which i really didnt notice any) or that its from burning something, be it a fuel additive, or oil, or coolant......... makes me worry about the HG, but im not losing a drop of coolant, and no noticable oil burning. otherwise they appeared to be very old plugs, and i wouldnt be surprised if the previous owner was generous with the autozone fuel additives (employee there) so im just going to monitor everything of course. im going to get my leakdown tester fixed soon so ill try that out on it.

i still have to change the oil (seafoam still in it) as well as install the 3 new accessory belts that i have already. then id say its pretty much 100% ready to go, which means now i have 2 CBs for sale....

i will post pictures soon, as soon as i get them resized and uploaded.

should i have? it was covered with this sticky oilish residue, i assumed it was an anti-corrosive protectant. i didnt want to get involved with stripping that, and painting the whole tank........

ummm im not sure i replaced a tank on a toyota with an aftermarket tank and it was like that as well. I just assumed that aftermarket parts are pretty plain and they dont do any extras to them like painting,etc...

been almost a year since i updated this thread.

truck is running well, NOW, after sitting all summer with leaking brake & fuel lines. damn things rusted right through (i knew it was going to happen..) so I ended up replacing EVERY BRAKE LINE on the entire vehicle (using all Accord fittings & fresh plain line from Autozone), as well as all of the fuel feed & return lines, with a fresh new Earl's fuel filter. I did an ABS-removal, and bypassed the LSPV and opted for a manually adjustable proportioning value. I also installed some Accord stainless steel front brake lines.

                      runs great now! coming next:

                      - front rotors & pads (already have)
                      - new driving lights (already have)
                      - power windows & locks conversion (already have)
                      - new speakers and sub (christmas)

other than that, its nice to finally be able to drive it again without worrying about everything leaking... BRING ON THE SNOW

OEM optional parts like that are very difficult to find, besides watching the classifieds on various forums. I know most people don't care for them, so you might be able to find somebody sitting on a set.

Personally I am on the fence about them... half the time I like the visual accent, but functionally they are useless and are starting to become very rusty... last time I was under the vehicle I was considering cutting them off... I guess I'll use them as rock guards / sliders without caring if they get ruined.

Yes they are. Even my used shift boot was half the one bill

Now that you mention it, maybe I won't need it after all.
But again the truck has a 3" suspension lift and 4" body lift.. I'm not sure if its right or not as I'm still a noob to pickup and its what the previous owner told me My point was that I'm only like 5' 5/ 5' 6... Aw, you know what I'm talking about

Do you have a 31" spare in that picture where you can see it?

It's weird...you had the narrow wheels when you first bought it, but it almost looks like you had the spare tire that matched the alloys.

There was a wider steelie they put on a lot of the 4Runners and some of the later pickups.

I'm on the hunt for a new spare...I'm gonna try and fab up a mount to the rollbar.
