finished the wire tuck on the driver side! still have to do the passenger side, but i cant do that until i remove the brake lines, which im not going to do until im 100% positive that i have a full set of usable non-ABS lines. besides annoying, the wire tuck was pretty easy. i had to cut and extend only 3 wires, which is no problem at all, everything else was able to reach after i removed sections of loom and rearranged it.

i chose not do tuck it into the frame rail for 2 reasons:
1. its much more annoying and time consuming
2. god forbid if i ever have to get to one of the wires, id be screwed.

the wires are fully loomed and taped and with the protection of the splash guard, they will be fine.

heres what i did:


used a hole saw and drilled 2 holes. one on the outside (first pic) and one on the inside of the wiper arm assembly area (you can see the top edge of it in the second pic)




then i unloomed and separated the harness into 2 groups, one set for connectors remaining in the engine bay, the other is the wires running up to the front of the car.



used a section of rubber hose as loom for the section that passes through the bare holes for extra protection and loomed and taped everything. used wire screw-downs to hold the wiper arm wiring in its new location, out of the way.



all of the AC wiring and crap is stuck here.



all of the driver side wires are still connected, but completely hidden out of the way

never thought that id actually be doing a wire tuck but i like it a lot. once i get the brake and clutch lines, master cyl and booster, fusebox and the rest of the wiring removed, im going to clean and repaint the entire engine bay

as far as damage, no clear marks on the valves or pistons... one of the exhaust valves on cyl 2 looks like it has a dent along the edge, but nothing grotesquely bent or broken


i would never going to do a wire tuck for anybody. its way too involved, and its really something that only the owner can do while digging deep into the engine bay. its not something that you can just "do" without removing tons of stuff. thats why im doing it now... its now or never.

this is step one of my whole-car makeover revamp: engine bay.
next is either suspension (tear it completely apart and redo it all with fresh and clean parts and all new bushings) or body (take all panels and trim apart, fix the rust, and get it painted)
and somewhere down the line ill redo the whole interior, black and grey.

4-5 hours on thursday to get the motor all disconnected and the manifold and wiring removed. 7 hours on friday to get the head apart and off, block out, and most of the stuff from the engine bay out. 5 hours today working on the the wire tuck.

yeah yeah... every other time i did/redid my car, no matter how much time i put into cleaning everything, i just wasnt satisfied with the outcome. came to the conclusion that taking it completely apart and redoing it the way i want is the only way to get it perfect.

only issue holding me back right now is finding a used power steering pump from a certain rare vehicle for a good price

this is the plan before i put the motor back in:

- strip out the head and mani and the block externals
- clean everything
- new clutch
- euro-r tranny
- new valves (+0.4 CR)
- replace all the seals in the head and block
- arp head studs
- h23 manual tensioner
- remove black box/evap can/ps res/resistor box/etc
- swap to non ABS lines and remove all signs of ABS
- wire tuck the engine bay
- rewire, rearrange and reloom the engine wiring harness
- paint engine bay
- prelude front mount and crossmember
- kill everyone
- and anything else i that i think of along the way that would help make the engine bay look cleaner

dang it man, seems like you, excalibur, and Zigen (sedan) are always steps ahead of me plan-wise. i probably just unconsciously steal all of yall ideas anyway, lol. i reckon ill just sit back and take tedious notes for now. you know, learn from other's success.

i will espescially be paying attn to the ABS discarding and the wire tuckage, although im not smart enough to get as tuck-intensive as yourself.

its shitty seeing the car all in pieces like that tho. keep up the hard work!

well you beat me to finish up the full wire tuck!! damn it. oh well lol. it will be done hopefully the 2nd week of august or something like that.
