stripped and painted the valve cover with wrinkle paint, still waiting for it to dry all the way and wrinkle up. then ill do the red. started cleaning the manifold. fuel rail is so huge, and the injectors are so tiny... its so weird.

the open gold area on the manifold is underneath the removable EGR ports... the ports are contained in a removable plate, scrub it with a brush and they are completely empty... too bad im not using EGR or cleaning it out would be worthwhile.

They don't have visual inspections when you go to take emissions and check for your EGR valve?

LOL, damn. Thats for an emissions test? If so, your one lucky guy. That car is gonna look like perfection when its done though. So that wrinkle paint makes it look like a stock VC when it dries up all the way? I've wanted to paint mines for the longest but wanted to get that OEM look.

BTW, where are you gonna spray the red? and what'd you use to strip the paint on the VC

im friends with the owner of the shop, and im good friends with his two employees, his son and my ex gf's brother... they dont do emissions tests anyway, just the regular inspections of everything. i fix their computers, so they of course dont bother checking my car. not that they would anyway.

ive never actually used wrinkle paint before, but yeah, its supposed to. says it takes a couple hours until its fully dry before it wrinkles all the way, so im waiting. and im going to use the red to paint over the wrinkle black, to get back that oem red valve cover, but nice and clean. i stripped the valve cover with mar-hyde Aircraft Coating Stripper. you spray it on, it basically eats the paint off of the metal, then you spray it all off with a garden hose.

Everything is looking good. My engine bay looked as dirty as yours before I cleaned it, and then as clean as yours is now... still not sure if it was a good idea to paint it black. Cant wait to see this PS project... seems a bit interesting.

Did you pull the engine/tranny w/o removing the axles first?

                  thanks.

and yeah i did, i never remove the axles. pull the damper fork and pop the balljoint, and just push the hub and axle out of the way. gives plenty of room to leave the axles in the hubs.

I can't wait to see it all back together.
I especially want to see the new valve cover and all the new engine goodies.
Looks like alot of work, but it will pay off.
